Default Missing my Tubi mufflers

Another RLer was cool enough to swap his stock mufflers for my Tubi mufflers, one of which has a rattle but appears to be serviceable.

Last night, I finshed the swap job - getting the Tubi cans off and shoving the factory mufflers up into the fenders. For a job that only requires 3 nuts (for each muffler) and two more to loosen the cat clamp, it's a project. I can only imagine how much more it would suck in a rusty climate.

How it sounds: My 911 now sounds like...a car. Not a race car, not even a fast car - just...a car.

I'm gonna miss those mufflers. If you're on the fence, go for the Tubi mufflers. They are definitely loud, but it's an awesome loud. They shout, "You! In the Taurus! Point me by!"

I think stock mufflers sounds great when you 'mean business' and get 5000 revs onwards. I don't think I would like to hear that 'growl' all the time. Small doses of anything is better for you lol. Just saying...

Personally, I didn't think my Tubi's were loud and I've run muffler bypass before and think those are loud for sure. However when you do get on it past 4k, I've been told by my wife that she can hear my car from a block and a half away when she walks the dogs.

I make a point of taking it easy going up and down my cul de sac when I have to go out late at night or early in the morning - even so, a neighbor from the far end of my street asked me the other day what I do for a living, since they hear my car coming and going at all hours.

I think he was hoping I was a surgeon or a drug dealer, and not just a guy with servers that sometimes need attention at odd hours.

Thus, I realized that the Tubi's were louder than I thought.

I believe my car has the stock exhaust and Fabspeed tips....I have to say that I LOVE the sound of the exhaust. I could go 80 on the highway with the cruise on and have basically no noise in the cabin from the exhaust, but as soon as I down shifted my 6th or gave it a bunch of throttle the engine would just HOWL. And as it goes up the RPM range, the amount of resonance noise and how it changes with the engine RPM is very cool!

Schnell
You should have done the gundo hack on the stock cans before putting it on the car.

PP, I will hack them (or get them hacked depending on how adventurous I'm feeling with the welder) - but I needed the car up and running ASAP, and I also wanted to get the Tubis out to the gent who shipped me his stockers. He was kind enough to send them out basically with nothing but my word that I would actually send him something back, and I've already taken too long to get them swapped out...

I've also been toying with the idea of using remote cutouts to do some kind of PSE-type hack...

The is the manual remote version but you don't have to worry about silly electronic solenoids breaking.

I think I'd spring for the Quick Time Performance electric cutouts, but that's certainly some creative use of the Home Depot plumbing section! I looked it up because I was curious and I was surprised to see that Teflon tape is good up to 500 degrees!

Someone finished that, sat back, and thought, "perfect!"

*facepalm*

I know that Tubi had a couple of versions - mine were very loud. It's really weird driving the car with such a drastically different exhaust.

doesnt make sense to me ? you say the fellow rennlister was willing to swap the stock mufflers for the tubi,s sounds like a no brainer for him and very generous on your part. i have the tubi's and as you know they are very $$$ that being sed,to remove these and put stock ones back, and then consider a hack( gundo, fister etc)i dont get it ???. my tubi's are coupled with 200 cell sport cats and headers, and still the system is not loud, especially under normal driving conditions, when the revs increase of course so does the volume, they will also last longer then factory mufflers, and imo they have a fantastic sound, now of course if you sold them and got some decent return on your investment than thats fine, and if you are returning the car back to stock for whatever reason thats ok to.but to start cutting, welding, etc the stock mufflers doesnt make sense to me, funny on these forums i read about the fister and gundo hacks to the mufflers all the time and i understand its cheaper $wise then a factory pse system and aftermarket exhaust (tubi, cargraphic etc) yet ive never met a fellow 996 owner with that mod? anyway its all good, and its fun to play with the car no doubt....good luck..and nice car.......p.s.did i read correctly that you heard a rattle from one of your tubis? or a rattle on one of the stock mufflers?
