I wouldn’t have a problem buying a branded title, except you can have problems getting full coverage insurance and trying to sell it is more difficult.
If I were buying something cheap to drive until it is not worth repairing...or something to race, ok.
But something that’s expensive and I might want to sell someday...nope.

Buy it for 6k, sell the wheels and the taco, end up with a free 996.

Hi all,
Here is my car that I am selling. I love this car and I am sad to let it go, but it's the smart thing financially for me.

Anyone in the Las Vegas area familiar with this car? A friend of mine is looking at it online and may go up to see it.

Can you guys educated me on why one would go for the 996.1 over the 996.2? I know the earlier models have larger IMS bearing but wouldn't the 3.6L engine makes it so much better?

No idea why someone would pick a 996.1 over a 996.2.

I have one of each, and I prefer to drive the 996.2.

You are likely to hear people say that the 99 is lighter, has both a lower IMS failure rate, cable throttle and lid release cables. Jake Raby has said they have better build quality.

The 996.2 has a stiffer chassis and more horsepower. I also think it has nicer lines, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Oh, and headlights are different, but opinions vary widely on this issue.

When I was a kid I fell in love with all the supercars g (xj220, countach, McLaren F1) but the Porsche gt1 Le man's car hit me hard. I loved its modesty and German machinistic design. So shocked that people were so opposed to the fried egg headlights. To me the 996.1 has always been a reliable realistic and beautiful 90s German sports car ...the .2 just loses a bit of that and even though untrue, it feels like Porsche bent to customer complaints with offering the facelift... also. I believe the 996.2 is when orthodontists started buying Porsches 😂

996.2 is what I'd go for.

Keep in mind that the IMS failure rate is around 5%, so 95% of them never had any issues.

Buy the car you like. I ended up with an early build 1999 C2 and I love it. Both series have their pluses and minuses. If I was buying a 996.2 with an unknown IMS Bearing history, I would immediately address it. Get a PPI. Drive and enjoy.
