Not entirely sure I follow your rationale. Are you saying anyone with a pre-facelift 911 cab should have just bought a boxster instead? I have not driven a pre-facelift 911, but I will say that my Boxster S and 911 feel like completely different cars. Additionally, the boxster is much smaller than the 911, with much less space for taller drivers. Never mind the fact that you get a 3.4 instead of 3.2, 50 more hp, and 911 styling.

No seriously. For a Gen 1 996, why not just buy a Boxster?
Having driven both quite a bit, they are very different cars. Cosmetically, sure, they're pretty similar. But the driving experience is significantly different between the two. 996 has noticeably more power than even a Boxster S, and the weight of the balance of the two cars are very different, especially if you intend to drive it as a "sports car."

I have a 99 Coupe, a 99 Cab, and an 02 986 (with S engine). All very different cars. But the main difference in driving for a tall person is the 986 roof is about 1.50 inch shorter, and the seat will not slide back as far. Makes a big difference if you are over 6' and trying to wear a helmet for a track day !!! My helmet even interferes with the sunroof of the 996 Coupe. The 996 without sunroof will have a bit more headroom..

Might work for a budget, albeit higher mileage, track car. Checks all the boxes - coupe, manual, RWD.

Debo sends.

155k on the car, 45k on the crate engine from Porsche. This was a tracck car for the first engine which succumbed to oil starvation. All receipts included with purchase

Damn, that's a hell of a deal. Where in the PNW are you located? Did you find it on Craigslist?

I paid $7k for everything mentioned. It's all installed and set to soft settings. I'll check the window sticker after work, if that's what you mean.

I've been waiting for the market to come to me.

I got the P Car bug in 97 while in my teens with a beater 73.5 911. Fixed it and sold(unfortunately) it in my 20's. More recently had a 986 S 6spd for about 5 years which was great at the track and garaged/sunday driven otherwise. That one sold me on cheap water cooled era. Had a kid. Sold it. Had another kid and started watching the 996 market.

Once I finally test drove a tip at speed and in traffic, I knew the I could stomach not having a manual. This morning's drive in cemented that.

Next up are two toddler seats and replace the CR-220
