The lien title is probably what makes it harder to sell.
I know I always shy away from vehicles with liens...even though I probably miss out on some nice deals because of that.

I don't understand why you would be weary of a lien title? It just means a bank/credit union is holding the title since the car is financed. So when you buy the car, you pay them instead of the owner and they send you the title.

The one time I bought a vehicle with a lien title (back in the 1990s) I had to make several calls and visits to the savings and loan.
1) They lost the title.
2) They found the title "it will be signed today."
3) No one was available to sign it, "come back tomorrow"
4) They lost the title again
5) They ordered a new title
6) 2 months later...They still haven't received the title
7) The saving and loan went bankrupt.
8) The FDIC took over
9) The assets were sold off
10) The original title then mysteriously appeared.
11) Submitted paper work again
12) Finally got the title from the new owner of the assets
13) Then I took the title to get it registered the title was signed off by a different entity than held the lien
14) I had to wait a couple more weeks to get a letter on the new company's letter head stating that it had taken over assets from the original savings and loan
15) I finally received the title about 6 months after I'd purchased the car.
I had hoped to flip the car.
I ended up with a bunch of money tied up in a car I couldn't sell.
I promised I'd never buy a car with a lien again!
I still haven't.

What I would do in that case, if the seller wants to sell a car with a loan, is request him to pay the remaining amount to the bank, get the title, and just then, I would pay him the whole amount of the car.

But I'm hesitant to buy unless the seller has a clean blue Texas title in their name.
I'm sure I miss out on some awesome deals, but I'm OK with that.
I modify my Craigslist searches to include only clean titles.
If I were financing, and only putting down a few thousand on a car, then I'd probably worry less about paperwork and titles.
But I pay the full amount (I have a huge hatred of debt) and want to be able to sell the car immediately should I decide to.
Maybe someday I'll buy a car from out of state, but for now it's TX only.
LA is not far from here, and I've passed up some good deals for cars not that far from me because of my hesitation to buy from out of state.
Just call me a crazy old fart who's set in his ways.

I'm kinda the same way when it comes to buying local but since it's a Porsche (niche market) I'm willing to possibly buy in the surrounding states.

I did. The car is in great shape. He has records going back to 2010 when he bought it. IMS was done in 2012 along with the RMS. He has a recent oil analysis too. Has it maintained at the Porsche dealer here. Original clutch and will need front tires to pass inspection. I would have offered him but my wife had other ideas on how to spend our money. Lol.
