hmmm.... seems like an honest guy, but Flat 6 docs would help.

Yes, I know that MEs are model year 2000, but I didn't think about it when typing last night. I meant to say 40th Anniversary (40 Jahre).
As others have said, I too think there is lots of reason to be suspicious about the lack of care and maintenance this last owner has had for the car. It could be a diamond in the rough of sorts, but in addition to engine repair (replacement?) it will likely need attention to deferred maintenance, appearance refreshening, etc. Only a bargain if it could be gotten for cheap...

I can tell you that if you do sell on BaT.... don't do it half-heartedly. Having a leakdown test, oil analysis and shooting photos of your paperwork is very much worth the effort. I was also very responsive to comments and questions.
The buyer of the car told me this morning that my commentary and quality of my photos and additional info provided made all the difference to give him confidence in the auction.
Dealing with the paperwork and logistics now.

Regarding that 2004 on BaT right now, did any of you see that photo of the chunk of metal missing out of the engine block? Doesn't look generally debilitating, but exactly where is that spot and what could have caused that????

Notice the gap between 2008 and 2010. As we know, 2010 being the year that Flat6 reconstructed this engine.
Raises a few concerns:
1. Did the original 3.6L x51 engine experience serious failure that required Flat6 services and the third owner optioned to have it upgraded to a 3.8L??
2. Was the car potentially tracked and engine upgraded to 3.8L for more performance?
3. Was the car damaged in some way and put in storage which would explain why it wasn't officially registered for 2009?
4. Maybe the car was scheduled for the upgrade by Flat6 and the owner decided not to fool with registration in 2009?
5. Maybe since 2010, the car hasn't been serviced and maintained properly which would have nothing to do with Flat6 and more about an owner's negligence?
Interesting!

Part of the fun is using your imagination to make up various backstories!
The car is just down the road from me... Would be interesting to talk to the seller in person and see what he's got to say.

Anyone close enough to go check it out? This would be the only silver car I would consider...
