Default Short Road trip to the mountains

After the EURO Auto Festival in Greenville SC the w/e of 16-19 we want to stay in the area and spend some days Sun and Mon. ret on Tue.: , in the hills in the "tweesties" other than the Dragon and the Snake .

Are there any other good roads off the beat and path ?

Suggestions welcomed !!!

More for destinations than challenges, but the Blue Ridge Parkway going north from Asheville is beginning to show color, the viaduct around Grandfather Mountain is spectacular., lunch at Little Switzerland then overnight at Blowing Rock has its charms.
