I also wonder how much oil the IMS shaft holds and how often it gets refreshed?

When I install an IMS bearing, I freeze the bearing and use a heat gun on the IMS shaft, then the bearing slides in without pounding.

I am under the impression the oil enters between the bearing and the rear gap between the rear flange, After bearing is installed and when the outer flange nut is tightened, there should still be a gap on the inside of the IMShaft. I do think oil capacity is increased by atleast a quart or more, i have exactly 10quarts in it now and im right the maximum mark..

Okay, maybe a dumb question on my part, but I have to ask. Why would you heat the IMS shaft? Doesn't heat expand the metal, and the ID of the bearing is smaller from freezing? The freezing of bearings makes sense when you want the OD smaller than the opening you are putting it into (like the outside of the IMS bearing going into the intermediate shaft). I don't see the rationale in expanding the shaft and contracting the ID of the bearing. What am I missing?

Right, the shaft is a bit larger from heating, and the bearing a bit smaller from freezing.

Ooh, I get it. I was misunderstanding. Thanks.
