Talking Detailed: My 2004 Porsche 996 (With Pictures!)

I picked up this 2004 996 C2 back on March 1, 2014. While the overall condition of the vehicle was excellent, unfortunately, it wasn't driven much and both the exterior and interior needed some nice elbow grease.

I met up with some of my friends for a Sunday morning coffee a few weeks after picking up this car and one of them offered to detail the vehicle for me! Talk about an amazing friend!

While my friend is no professional, he does detailing on his free time strictly as a hobby and as you will see in the photos below, what a difference it makes! I thought I'd share with you folks some pictures of his work! Any comments/questions/suggestions are welcome. Enjoy!

Upon arrival:

After claybarring the car the biggest issue was holograms all over the car.

Took her inside and decided a single stage polish was the best way to go as the overall condition of the car was good. Used Sonax Perfect Finish 4/6 on a Porter Cable.

A couple of 50/50's showing the difference.

The car is finished in a light grey interior. It was showing some minor wear but overall in excellent condition.

Cleaned up the driver's seat. A 50/50 showing the difference on the seat bottom.

Unfortunately the sun did not want to make an appearance today. So inside we go. Under the light finished shot after applying Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant topped with Optimum Car Wax.

Brought her outside for some finished shots - that deep blue really starts to pop.

Only peek of sun today so far to show the depth of colour.

A quick shot of the whole car. Tires dressed with Adam's Super VRT for a low-gloss look.

Absolutely a gem of a car in fantastic condition. I was kind of cold to Porsches through past experiences but after driving and spending a couple of days with this car, I'm smitten.

Hope I can find one in such good condition when I'm bored of the S2000 someday.

Anyways, thanks to the owner for letting me take a stab at cleaning her up.

Great job from your Bruh. I would quickly pull the car inside and cover it!

My friend Kevin is actually an accountant by trade but moonlights as a detailer strictly as a hobby.

For the tail lights, he used the Sonax Proline Perfect Finish 4/6 with a Porter Cable. This was the same polish he used on the body of the car and he says you can pretty much achieve the same result using any kind of polish (in his experience any way.) When I took a stab at this on my old E30 325i and E36 M3 using a different polish, I was able to get the same level of shine, albeit not as good as I did it by hand.

For the interior, he used this: http://www.detailersdomain.com/DIY-E...ing_b_331.html

Your friend does good work. What color is the car? Never seen another 996 like it.

I believe the factory colour name is "Cobalt Blue Metallic."

Sorry, no. He doesn't but I'm certain he will if his expenses are covered!
