Rear deck lid emblem question

Rear deck lid emblem question
So as my car is out on vacation I thought I would tackle another problem I have at home. The rear deck lid on the car has a big dent and the body shop wanted $650 to fix it.
So I bought a used deck lid on ebay and was planning on swapping out. My car is a 99 Carrera 4 and it says Carrera 4 in silver on the upper half of the deck lid.
The used one I have says Carrera in black on the lower half of the deck lid.
So do I just run with that? Take it off and leave it blank? Replace with Carrera 4 in the lower position or where is should be? Put in something else like 911 or PORSCHE?
Thoughts? Pics?

I'm not sure what you mean by lower 1/2. There is no room to mount a logo above the grille, only below.
The Carrera 4 script on my '01 is below the grille about 1.5-2 inches. It is also silver.
One option is to remove the silver logo from your damaged lid and reinstall it wherever you want on the replacement lid.
There are threads in the forum about how to remove the logos using dental floss and similar techniques.
The logos are not pinned thru the car lid like some are, and it does not seem that difficult to remove and reinstall these.

Porsche changed the position of the script. The 99-01 have the script below the spoiler. the 02 on have the script at the bottom of the deck lid. Check some pics. I never noticed until I started this project.
I read the posts on removal but I was under the impression you could not use the old lettering. I would love that option but a new Carrera 4 is over $100 (the 4 is the same cost as the Carrera). I know I come with adhesive tape. How would you put tape on the old lettering?

If your new lid is the same color (your not painting it) I would leave the badging where it is.
The sun fates the paint , not a lot but it does and removing a badge can leave dis Colored paint under where badge was

New lid is same color. Now that I just shined up the lid I am thinking the same thing. But I thought PORSCHE in capital letters may look cool.
As an aside, if ebay prices are real, I am going into the business of buy rear deck lids, taking them apart and selling the pieces. I think I paid $250 for the deck lid with spoiler and everything.
I see just deck lids for that much, plus another $100 for the spoiler, plus another $50 for the bellows, plus another few bucks for the rest of the mechanicals.

While you're welcome to do whatever you like - and encouraged to do so - the PORSCHE block letters don't look as good as you'd imagine on the back of the 996.

I am in the process of waxing and polishing it and it looks great. Now if I just had a car to put it on...
Going to leave the black Carrera and tell people that I did a RWD to AWD conversion. It may affect the collector car value of it in the future, though. The market for twice wrecked, 4 owner, limited history, engine rebuilt, and rebadged 996's is soon going to go through the roof.
I still can't express how psyched I am about this project. This is the first thing that I have done to my Porsche that has not cost me more money. Replacement part looks good. I didn't break anything...yet. And I have extra parts to sell.

To each his own, but if you decide to go with the "Porsche" block letters, buy the OEM ones for the 991, not the ones for the Panamera which are too big.

I just redid mine this morning by pulling the broken one off the top half (snagged the top of the C and snapped it off when washing it a couple weeks back) and replacing on the lower half. Also went from black to silver. Looks wayyyy better on the lower half and in silver! Easy to replace but the badge is about $50 for a new one.

Dang that looks good. Here is mine
Still waiting for a car to put it on. As an aside, wife is out of town so I got to do all the disassembly in the family room while watching top gear. After a winter of working on cars in the cold garage this was nice.

The "911" badging actually cost more than the "PORSCHE" lettering . I'm happy with the results. I had a black "Carrera" emblem originally on my C2 Cab and the tail of the "a" had broken off. One too many people asked me what kind of "Camero" I had.
