Any must do mods/upgrades?
I'm close to finalizing a deal on an 04 4S cab. Already thinking us some updates. I'd love to hear what people have done or recommendations.
My list so far:
Storage bin - replacing cd storage
Speakers front/rear and sub
Clear side markers
Sirius radio, but I want to keep head unit
RMS/IMS when clutch gets replaced

Fister sport mufflers if you don't have PSE

I added an auto-dimming rear view mirror with Homelink. That was a nice upgrade.

^^^ Agreed. Address any needed mechanical work before you do anything. THEN, I recommend:
- Exhaust (Fister, Gundo hack or Fabspeed are the most popular)
- Suspension (M030 if you want an OEM upgrade, or a set of coilovers will really transform how the car drives)
- Clear corner lights
- Aftermarket stereo (seriously, just spend the $200 for a decent Pioneer or Alpine unit with Bluetooth and iPod integration)
- Short shifter (997 short shifter is a popular one)

I've dyno'ed a lot of 996's & 997's with all different exhaust configurations from ours & other manufacturers - the best bang for your buck as far as exhaust power gains are concerned on a 997S are Fabspeed's Sport headers. X51 headers produce the same peak power, but our Sport Headers produce noticeably more low & mid range torque, which is where most of your driving is spent.

Yes! Baseline the maintenance first, then start modifications. Personally I most enjoy my "fister" style mufflers ($60 local exhaust shop) and 997 shifter with EvoMS SwiftShift. Though when I do suspension this spring it may jump to the top of the list.

What about for 996 since this is the 996 forum? I think owners here will care less on what goes on for 997s cars.

One outstanding mod that will improve visibility and make driving safer is a clip-on wide view mirror. Pay for quality - I paid about $75 on Amazon and consider it the best accessory I've ever purchased and would never go back to the stock mirror.

Honestly; I'd say just drive the car for 3 months to see if you're hit with any unexpected issues/costs, and then start thinking about mods. You will have a better idea for yourself what you'd want out of it as well!
