Cool idea on the remote level control, it would be nice to have a bit easier access to volume aside from my phone buttons. I currently use the “equalizer” in my phone settings and it is sufficient for my use.

I wanted the equalizer more for left/right and front/rear than the band adjustment. Most likely going to mount it in the CD changer location. Here's the one I picked up:

Also the interface is completely customizable. If I wanted I could add TPMS sensors as well. This brings my 99 up to having all the features of a new car.

Hey Quaz, any update on the performance of this Atoto unit?

This deserves more likes, the only option for any 996 it shouldn't even be a discussion.

One of the best things about having a Porsche, I'm still shocked Porsche made this. It's the #1 best upgrade by a long shot (2nd... exhaust)

Looks fantastic, connection box in glove box + wireless adapter was wise! I have mine front and... left. Still looks good but glove box is the way to do it.

Perfection.

@SSDVC
My ‘99 came to me with the Atoto A6 Pro and, as I’ve stripped the interior for a redo, it’s the only thing I’m keeping.
on another forum, another poster said the A6 sucks compared to the newer A8 but it’s difficult to see where the A6 could be lacking. It boots immediately, the backup camera comes on immediately when needed. No complaints.
it’s double Din and does not come with a **** or car play but both can be added, inexpensively w adapters.

Hey Quaz, I like the Atoto A6 head unit that we both have. My car had only four (out of six) speakers hooked up, directly to the Atoto. Dash speakers were original and not hooked up, no Bose ('99 C2) and factory amp bypassed. New GT3 door cards don't have speakers so I'm back to the dash. Plenty of room (rear seat delete) for sub. I'm interested in upgrading everything but keeping the Atoto head unit. What is your set up & how do you like it?

ALWAYS discussion! Although the Porsche unit looks nice, just like most things Porsche it is ridiculously expensive, does NOT have features that aftermarket units do AND only "looks" better because it has a Porsche sticker on it! My Kenwood unit looks and sounds phenomenal! The screen can tilt through a large range so I can get a better view. It has a backup camera with guidelines like my Macan AND costs less WITH an Alpine amp and new speakers!!

This is the single best solution I have seen. I like it so much, that I am working on making one similar.
I am going to make a slight modification though, I will be using a wireless charging phone mount, and I bought one of these, so I could control the volume with a ****:

Which I will use to remote turn-on and control the Amp. (it is a Bluetooth audio receiver with amp output)

I will mount that to the left of the phone mount. Should do the trick. Thank you @PASSMORE for the inspiration.

Thanks for the kind words, it’s performing well and I look forward to adding a small sub to the system to complete it.

Your mods are the only minor details I’d like to resolve myself.

Adjusting the volume via the phone is not optimal, though it’s reasonable. Where did you source the ****?

I considered wireless charging as well and would like to do so. My Magbak wireless chargers have been unreliable and I wanted to consider the solution a bit more before going forward. The Magback case and attachment has been rock solid and works great in this application.

Cool, but why not just go with a PCCM? Factory solution, 100% integration and looks amazing

I'm amazed everyone doesn't just get these, what other manufacturer comes out with a product like this for historical models??!

I considered that route, but did not care for the small screen and styling of the DIN sized PCCM. The double DIN sized one was tempting but I prefer the center console delete and was not yet ready to take on relocating my HVAC. Also, for this car, I did not want a double DIN size screws to dominate the dash.

I agree that it looks good (and I seriously considered going that route), but I don't see much utility in a 3.5" screen that provides the same function as my phone. I was previously running a double DIN, and even with that 7" screen I thought the viewing angle was too low.
