There's nothing stopping you. I have factory Xenon's but I'll be doing this to a pair of non-Xenon stock lights this summer.

Hi guys,

I've been following this thread and the one of 986forum, I've been wowed by these lights.
I was thinking of getting a pair of these as an upgrade to my stock lights, but as I live in Quebec, it needs to be DRL compliant.

Is there anyone here, from Quebec (or provinces with similar requirements) that has these? If so, did you have to do anything special to avoid troubles with the authorities ?

Thanks,
Hervé

Hi Hervé,

It's my understanding that the OEM DRL's use the low beam bulb in a low-power application, though I've had trouble getting any Canadian users to confirm this.

If I had some specifics on how the DRL's work, I could design something for you guys that would be plug-and-play. I admit that I haven't done much research on the topic, so I will do some searching, but any information that you could provide would be helpful.

1) which bulb is used for the DRL?
2) what is the voltage to it in DRL mode?
3) several pictures of the internal wiring would be of great use, specifically all of the bulb sockets and near the main connector.

My best guess is this;
A relay with a threshold of 9V. In DRL mode (6V?), the relay would be off and send power to a bulb placed in the highbeam socket as a DRL. When the voltage exceeds 9V (12V when headlight switch is on), power will be sent to the HID bulb.

Hi,

It seems to me that the low beam is used. this is a picture of the car with DRL only:

Next, pics of the wiring:

I don't have the voltage. That said, I have found on the website of the SAAQ (Quebec crown corporation responsible for licensing drivers and vehicles) the following description of what DRL have to be (legally):

That's all I could find for the moment but if more is needed, let me know.

Hmmm...those look fairly bright as far as halogens go. I wonder if it's the full low beam. Do they get brighter when going from DRL to low beam?

Side note: pictures below are my headlights (almost finished). Apologies if you all have seen these. I'm posting them everywhere

These are not for sale.

I didn't post it but I took a picture with the full low beam (for comparison purpose). It's identical.

As long as the low beam is at full power in DRL mode, then it wouldn't be a problem. Need to confirm this, though.
