Done so soon

Think I'll be selling my 996 in a few weeks. Even after doing IMS, RMS, new clutch, flywheel, ROW M030 suspension, and gundo hack... I still don't love driving the car. It still doesn't put a smile on my face the way other cars have. The roads are in very bad shape here, there is no track, the autocross isn't that enjoyable... Originally my plan was to slowly set-up the car the way I'd like it (closer to a GT3 than a C2) and have a track car/ weekend driver when I went back to the mainland in 5 years. Buying a house has slowed down what I had planned for the car, it seems most my of $ goes towards house things, and our renovation projects.

The real reason, is that I miss riding motorcycles. I used to ride super sports, loved wearing full leathers and dragging knee, but held off getting a bike here because Oahu has almost no nice windy back roads or a track, and crappy roads. An idea of getting an Enduro/ super Moto has turned into something I'm craving. I can have fun riding to work, as well as take the bike intro the many trails here, or beaches to have fun. Last time I owns bikes, my cars usually just sit in the garage neglected unless the weather is really crappy. Just doesn't make sense to keep my car right now.

On a positive note, someone in Hawaii will be getting a very well sorted 996. While I downsize to an island beater, and a hooligan bike.

Sounds like it's time for you to move on. Be safe on the bikes.

I have never found any fun driving in Hawaii. Just not a place for a serious, fast car.

always enjoyed H3 to KBay...my escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Best of luck.
P.S. Also a motorcycle rider here (09 Busa and 02 Road King)

Magnum PI seemed to manage OK with his 308GTS

Best of luck. If you're single, might I recommend a used CRX if you really cherish driving enjoyment and fun. It will get close to 30mpg even if you drove it like you stole it. Older Mini's are great too in terms of feel and fun.

I know what you mean about bikes as I have a BMWr100 and Aprilia but still find the CRX a very fun car(I recently bought one again as after having a couple when I was younger). I dare to say its even more fun than my 996.

I was hoping the 996 would grow on me the more I stiffened a few things up on it, and slowly gave it a more "raw" feeling. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep up with my typical self, getting bored with a car. It never really was all that much fun for me to drive, yes it's somewhat quick, handles great, but bores me doing it some how... Haha who knows.

Hate to see you leave ccaarmerciill, but you have to do what keeps you happy. Enjoy the bikes and the weather for the rest of us looking outside at snow on the ground.

Maybe you should try a 70's or 80's 911... they are more visceral to drive. Manual steering, clunky transmission, noisy... but I agree, HI is not a great place for a sports car, so maybe that is the real issue here.

I still love my P-cars. I'm sure on day I'll be back in one (likeliest scenario would be the new Cayman S once it drops in price)

I always come back!

Wanna sell the RoW M030 suspension?:)

I say do what makes you happy. I would think the weather in HI would be super conducive to riding a bike year round, and you should get one hell of a bike for your 996 sale proceeds. Ride safe!

Haha, my suspension doesn't even have 500 miles on it, but I guess it'd make a good selling point. Planning on getting the 2014 KTM 690 Enduro R. That bike seems to fulfill exactly what I'm looking for in a bike here. Was previously considering a 500 EXC but too high maintenance for something that will mostly be street ridden, don't need a race dirt bike with plates on it.

completely off topic -> which Aprilia do you have? I had a Shiver before, looking into maybe a MV Aug Brutale now

to the OP: I can have more "easy fun" driving my wife's almost stock G35 Coupe. The difference, is that at some point the G35 gives up and doesn't want to go any faster. The 911 keeps pushing me to drive faster and more importantly to drive better.
