Of course, many like to see what the cars are selling for (actual sales, not listed prices). I troll eBay a lot, just out of curiosity.
The VAST majority of car listings expire with "Reserve not met."
Here's one about to end in 2 hours, no reserve. Unless there's a sudden price bump at the end, looks like a great value for the current bidder. Leaves plenty of budgetary room to upgrade IMSB, RMS, etc.

Just thought you guys would find this one of interest.

Good price.
For reference here is another one that recently sold near me.
00 black cab, 6spd, grey interior
hardtop included
pretty base car, no real options
73k miles
IMS/Clutch/AOS/RMS all done
new tires
Upgraded stereo (Focal speakers, kenwood headunit)
Had some custom speaker covers added to door panels since they originally had map pockets. Probably could have used a pair of grey door panels with stock speaker grilles in them to replace (about $500 on ebay)
Sold for 15k

that is nuts ! at that price, it is the disposable porsche
especially as most of them really are trouble free ... the IMS story has really killed the value and tainted the brand.

The reason there are so few manual transmission 996s is that the American driving population vastly prefers automatic transmissions. Standard transmissions are cheaper than automatics, not the opposite. In reality (NOT in sports car forums on the Internet), nobody wants a stick shift.
According to Edmunds.com, the number of manual transmission cars sold in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2012 nearly doubled to 6.5%, the highest number sold since 2006, which is a depressingly low number.
While there are plenty of car enthusiasts who prefer standard transmissions (yours truly included), 95% of Americans prefer automatics; thus, I don't agree that a 996 with a stick is going to fetch an enormous premium over a Tip.
Cars that sell for a higher price - manual or auto - are the result of sellers who are willing to wait for the right buyer.
Right now, 996 sellers are seeing the car values drop and are dumping the cars before the prices get worse. Unfortunately, this only exacerbates the 996's plummeting depreciation...as the prices drop, more sellers will be motivated to dump their cars, which will drive down the prices, which will motivate still more people to sell their cars...and so on.
