IMS Class Action - any compensation for preventative maint.?
Today I received an "IMS Class Action" law suit letter. It indicates that if the action is successful, there may be compensation for IMS-related engine damage. I paid to do the LN IMS bearing upgrade. Do any of you lawyer-type folks know if I can request any compensation for those costs, since there was no engine damage?
(the letter was several pages full of "whereas", "so forth", "heretofore", "yada yada yada", and similar legalese baloney. I started to read it, but kept nodding off )
Thanks in advance.

And future damage is limited to the earlier of 10 years from in service date or 130000 miles. That effectively limits 2/3rds of cars to suffer damage after 7/17/13 and the balance of them by 2015.
I'm glad Porsche stepped up, but wish they had covered all cars to 130,000 miles regardless of age.

Got the letter today also............I knew that Porsche knew they were just placing bandaids on the IMS situation from 99-09 - they knew they blew it with the design - a blow to superior Porsche engineering prowess.......glad I dumped the C4S 03 car after all the smoke and mirrors from Porsche.......was a waiting game for them so they could be creative in limiting their exposure......they also stopped at 2005, which is utterly amazing as cars through 997.1 had the issue also...I can laugh now......joke is on us owners though.

Was just discussing this with my wife after she asked what the two settlement letters were for. I had the LNE retrofit done on the 04 C2 that I purchased as a CPO car so I figured that takes that one out of the mix. But on the other hand, in late April of this year Porsche provided a crate engine for the 04 C4S that I bought private third party. We figured Porsche got lucky on the C2 and we, in a weird sense, got lucky on the C4S. Had the engine gone just a few months later, this settlement could have meant we'd be out of pocket for over $16K instead of the $2K we paid for labor.
As I tried to explain to my dealer, Porsche acts as if I should be ever grateful for the good willing of an engine yet my preference would be to own a brand that didn't require such a ridiculous expense at 37K miles. Yet I still own them and still can't see parting with either of them.

Just for fun, Im sending my claim form in asking for reimbursement due to the fact the bearing "seals" had failed and grease had washed out, hence the bearing failed. I took plenty of photos of the seals so why not? My request will be quite puny since Im only asking for 25% of the cost of parts. Might give them a good laugh.

My '04 is apparently covered until 1/31/2014. Only 24k miles on her (I've put 12k on in two years vs. 12k the original owner put on in 7!) so it looks like I'll just do the preventative bearing swap later this year.
