Default Dectane LED tail lights

Has anyone tried these tail lights? They look really cool, but I'm wondering how well they fit and work.

I have the Depo brand lights, which I believe are exactly the same, but cost a bit less. They are OEM quality and are completely plug and play (one connection). They have built-in resistors, so there are no hyper-flashing or other issues. Mine are clear/red and I think they look great. My avatar photo doesn't do them justice. They make the car look new.

You can pick up the Depo lights for $599 on eBay, they look amazing! Definitely going to do this upgrade on my 911 eventually.

Its a moot point for you and me. They obviously wont fit the WB cars. (Hint: Learn German)

On a related note, I was considering those lights for my Targa however there have been several reports of the lights failing after a year or so. I love the look, but for that price I think they would have to be pretty bulletproof. Does anyone know if Depo has found/fixed the problem?

Where did you see reports of problems? I haven't seen any here, on 6Speed, or Renntech. I've kept my OEMs just in case.

There was a big discussion on 6Speed about them. I believe I have also seen similar reports here but I'll have to dig. I found the discussion by googling "dectane lights failing 996"

Those are all in the 997 forum, which I had read before. Seems there may be some incompatibility issues between the lights and the 997 electrical system. I haven't read about any issues with 996's, other than someone not tightening the screw and losing one of the fixtures.

I have had my Ebay led tails in for two years now without a problem at all. All is well with my car's butt. Maybe it is a 997 issue if there is one.

Thanks. I noted that the problems were with the 997 LEDs but I just assumed they would apply to the 996 version as well. If the problem is specific to the 997 DEPOs I might change my mind and buy a set.

BTW - I assume this kit doesn't include LED's for the CHMSL? Does it still look OK w/ a mix of rear brake lighting?

KrazyK, thanks for pointing this out, I did not (obviously) think about the wide-body difference.

So, are there any cool replacements for us wide-body fans?

I changed my mind.
Installed the Dectane tail lights today. Super happy with the result.
