According to the forum they're on every corner and every lot. It's amazing anyone drives anything *but* a turbo honestly.

And if thats true, then the base 996 should be really no more than 10-14k, considering the massive legitimate value differential between base 996 and turbo (turbo being a higher-end, better, faster, stronger, AWD car with a bullet proof engine)

I guess that leaves the Boxster as a 5-6k car. Good times!

Saw a TT today the original MSRP was $120,000. Internet special $19,995 and you get a free toaster with purchase.

A friend is selling a clean 996T with 80k miles for $29k. I don't find it unreasonable to be able to obtain a car for $25-28k depending on condition.

Why don't you have your friend post it on Rennlist? A clean 80K TT for $29K will get a ton of interest and likely a very quick sale....

Exactly. Let us see one of these phantom >$30K 996TTs or >$15K 996s.

I am fairly certain that the deferred maintenance and necessary repairs to these cars - if they even exist - would quickly add $5-8K to the cost.

There are no cheap Porsches worth buying. Period.

Except if you get extremely lucky and find a car from a coke addict in Fl that's looking for a quick cash sale to fund their habit or debt.

I found an 03 , red/black clean ext. and int. w/sport seats, with improved muflers/ bypass, and an CAI , K&N system , every thing works , just no owners manual, with 101 + miles , very clean
Peter, if this is the car with the metal in the oil could you post the details about what happened, etc.? Are you going to make an offer? That $20K+ asking price might go to $5K.

The PPI was bad ): ,
a metal sheen on the oil, , and clutch was needed, and rear wheel bearings, had a little noise in them , nice car otherwise in pristine shape, the search continues .
But I could be seeing a new engine in the future , that is not good !!

Ok, so your not interested in a "fixer" for cheap? Could you post a pic or some details about what they told you as for as cause, IMSB, etc? Any engine noise? What did the owner say? Did he know? Some members here may be interested if your not going to make an offer. This sounds like a fun project car if its cheap enough.

Plenty of fish in the sea! Glad you had your eyes wide open.

This is an important point about high mile/low price cars - they are potentially going to need lots of work to bring up to spec. I would rather spend more money up front on a good car than take a gamble on what it may cost to repair an OK car. If you are very confident in your diagnosis and repair skills your calculation may be different... but that level of skill/tools/available diagnostics is getting rare.

"Don't worry, my brother's got a great set of tools" no longer cuts it.
