OK, so, I reversed into a tree stump. Took me a few seconds to realise what I had done, loud bang, engine stalled, first thought was 'my engines blown up', THEN I REMEMBERED.

So rear bumper, n/s tail light, reflector, engine cover, all totalled, exhaust escaped, rear quarter a bit scratched up; not too bad I thought, but I managed to break quite a few odds and ends, amazing what damage an immovable object can do even at low speeds! Although the shape of it (curved) meant it managed to miss the metal bumper under the bumper cover, hence the high cost of repair.

It's in being repaired by Porsche, all work has life time guarantee. The cost of the repair to the rear totals £9k which my insurance is covering, but I had long been thinking about getting the front repainted (stone chips), and I was then advised there was little difference in getting the middle painted too, when the effort of blending is considered (for front and rear paint joining up), so we agreed on an extra £3700 to getting the whole car painted :-)

I can't wait to get it back, it should come back sparkling new, all to porsche spec's, so a bad day turned into a good day :-) Although I'd planned to spend this money sensibly, I'm secretly quite pleased my car had other ideas!

It's been in the paint shop for 3 weeks now and I'm due to get it back next Thursday! Woohoo!!!

That's what I thought originally, my first thought was to buy the parts and get a new bumper/get it painted, till I noticed the 1.5mm additional panel gap and bent hinges on the rear engine cover :-) Has worked out well though (we'll I'm expecting it too when I get it back, hopefully)

Sucks to hear. However, getting the chance to repaint the entire car is a nice perk.

Yea, it's pretty strange having bits of tree sticking out of your car, it has actually made a hole in the bumper cover (top right of the dent); a nice bit of cut off old branch was in there! I was pretty angry with myself when I did it, quite happy now though, well I'm trying not to think about my insurance renewal premium (ah not till September). The porsche dealer is pretty pricey, but I have to say, service is top notch, the estimate details every last item, they even came out to estimate and collect it, and I like the idea of guaranteed work, that I can be sure is spot on (after previous experience with paint jobs)

I will certainly be modifying the stamp on the accelerator, stamp on the brake reversing technique, but no, definitely no whiskey involved lol. Ironically I parked where I did to keep away from careless door denting drivers, then I made one hell of a dent myself :-)

So, the service from the OPC paint shop was excellent, they had the car for two months, and two weeks one month later (to polish the paint again once fully cured).

Very happy with the results.

As a bonus, I also ended up with new engine mounts, new exhaust tips, new reflector and n/s light.

I paid for the full respray, insurance covered all the damaged rear items, rebuild and respray.
