Just bought our first 996 -- I love it
I bought my wife a 2002 C2 Cab for her birthday -- and pulled off the surprise, no less. It was almost as much fun getting the car without her knowing as it is owning it. Almost.
It's black over natural brown full leather, six-speed, and came with two sets of identical wheels (one for summers, one for winters). With 57k miles, it's in exceptional shape. We both couldn't be happier, now my Boxster S has a big brother!

Thanks, guys, she loves the car. Drives it everywhere, and I got a charge out of surprising her. My buddies' wives are all giving them the "Where's my f-ing Porsche?" eyeball, which has them giving me a fair dose of good-natured grief.
I've always sort of fallen prey to the "997 is better" mantra, and don't get me wrong I really like the interior of my 987. But I love the elegant curves and older look of my 996 interior especially well. Something about it, I'm a bit bored with the 997 interior and don't like the 991 at all. So, for us, it is perfect.

Several years ago bought my wife a Euro 911 for her birthday also. Still living off the bonus husband points.
