Default Interesting Perspective--Cost of Maintenance

At least, interesting to me.

The last few days, I have been visiting a Jaguar Forum trying to deal with a pesky issue with my 2005 S-Type. It is clear that they have a much different perspective about "cost". For example, they consider a $450 repair to be "expensive".

As for my 996, if I were to walk out of my Indy only $450 poorer, I would be doing cartwheels in the parking lot!

+1. I think I spend $450.00 just to pull into the service drive and make eye contact with the service writer.

Try going on the Honda forums. It's all relative...

$450 is what a slightly above average unskilled worker earns before taxes in a week. For a lot of this country, $450 might be 10% of the value of their car or more.

Lets keep it in perspective.

The average repair might be less, but the frequency was much, much higher than every other car I owned with the exception of a Range Rover. In fact, my accountant said he had never seen a thicker maintenance file than the one for my '01 Jag VDP...

Well it started out British(bad electrics historically) then got bought out by Ford and now Tata motors owns it. So the train wreck has been coming but is going to be materializing very soon...

If there was any case to do a LS conversion in ANY car, the Jaguars would be prime candidates imo. Just sayin...

I am very surprised that Jags would be cheap to maintain?! Especially the new ones, or the old V12's! Where i am Jag and Land Rover is the same dealership and they own the Porsche too.

Your perspective gets very easily ruined when owning a Porsche.

When I hear about repair costs on other cars I get pretty jealous. But that's all part of the ownership experience and I'm sure we all knew what we were in for when we signed on the dotted line.
