I’d recommend that you go to Mayo’s instead of Zims. No offense to Zims, but Mayos is a certified installer for the IMS Solution, which is no small feat. I’d also recommend that you consider doing the Solution instead of a ceramic replacement if you plan to keep the car for 5 or more years.
I appreciate it. Thats a good point on the oil changes I will review the paperwork I got from him. I know of Mayos, I will use them instead. Thanks for the update. One last question: What it the "Solution"? I do plan on keeping my car.

I found the Mayo IMS Solution on Mayos website. Thanks again for the help and ideas.

996 new owner & noob, 156000 km, 996 mk1 from 1998, no ISM issue (AFAIK, nothing "special" has been done about it and it's stock engine). My next PC is for the 160000 km service, I do have a proper history with the service book (from germany), I will ask the PC to get in details about the car history and eventually IMS work.

2003 C4 Cab... IMS bearing replaced with LN as preventive measure at 93K. Rod failure during DE at 112K with catastrophic results. Installed IMS solution during rebuild. Man was that a $ project.

Angry IMS? Help needed ...

No CEL - No RPM change - No Oil Pressure drop - Nothing on the Durametric ...
And that noise at a traffic light a mile from home (a guy knocked on the passenger window telling me my car was making some strange noise).
Any of you guys with an idea?

Can't be sure but my Y2000 C4 made a similar noise when I bought it. I don't know if I have a standard exhaust but mine has some vacuum activated flaps in there and the shaft from an actuator to the flap broke allowing it to rattle around inside. Hope that is it, a relatively painless problem!

I'm far from an expert, but based on everything I've read, that sound of "marbles in a tin can" is your IMS ball bearings rattling around. Jake Raby would tell you to turn it off and never start it again. Tow it to him or a qualified shop and tear it down. Otherwise, every second it runs the engine is doing more damage.

Someone with more experience can correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for posting the video as I have never heard it before, yet I have read about this sound.

Oh, and, I'm sorry for your loss. (AND I HOPE I'M WRONG!)

Thanks for your answers.
Tovasco : Standard exhaust on mine - No flaps - Looking good
AdamIsAdam : I'm taking it to a shop asap. Bought the car 2 years ago with the IMS bearing supposedly changed ... Gonna wait for the expert to tell me the truth

Drain the oil, cut open the filter and pull the sump. Do not let anyone start it up!
How many miles on new IMSB?

10000 miles on the "new" bearing.
Gonna have the car inspected by an independent expert before calling the seller.
Hope the guy will be able to tell me if the bearing is the original or a new one.

If it was one of LN's kits and was registered, you can look up the install by VIN or by serial number:

http://imsretrofit.com/ims-check/

I would ask for a copy of the work order showing what exactly was done.

No part number? Can you post an image of the workorder?
