2001 C4, 70k miles; no issues. Thinking about proactive replace using a new system that direct injects oil to IMS to keep lubricated. Waiting to see cost. http://tinyurl.com/lmuqb5d

To you guys posting that your old bearing "looked perfect". Are you saying the seals are intact and oil was not in the bearing,,,,, or the seals are intact but failed because the bearing and tube had oil in them? Just trying to clarify because my bearing looked fine but bearing and tube were full of oil because the seals had obviously failed. If failed seals are added in the mix the failure rate just jumped from 9+% to about 50%, probably more.

1999 C4, 58K miles, replaced dual-row IMSB with LN bearing as preventive maintenance during clutch replacement. Other than being full of stinky intermediate shaft oil, the OEM bearing appeared healthy. Both seals were in excellent condition, and the bearing had no play.

I had a new 2009 factory replacement put in my 2002 C2, after much research no one could tell me if Porsche fixed the problem in the new engine so I finally decided to go ahead and have it replaced. when my mechanic went in to do the retrofit he found that it couldn't be done and the bearing had been beefed up and should be good to go. anyone have any thoughts on this?
