My Porsche is nothing more than a toy.....its purpose is to give me satisfaction/fun.......I get both driving it......cleaning it......modding it.....repairing it (as long as it is simple cheap stuff).....
The moment it stops serving its purpose......out it goes......
And finally, I do not think cruising at 65MPH in 6th gear will cause any problems........

Steve, dont sweat it. Cars have always meant more to those that do their own cleaning, detailing, maintanence, etc. VS. those that just drop their car off at the local "Soapy Suds Scratch Shop" for detailing then to the local "Please Break it off in My Azz Porsche Dealer" for an oil change.
As passionate as you seem to be about your 996, why dont you buy the Bentley manual, join Renntech, read as much as possible, then do some of your own maint? You will really appreciate your car more.
I will be pulling my trans shortly to inspect the clutch for wear, RMS, IMSB, and a good cleaning. I dont know all the history on my car, so its the only way to find out. 56K miles BTW.
