Battery Vent?

Battery Vent?
I had a new Interstate battery installed at the dealer last week. For the record, I could have easily DIY'd that but the car was already there and labor was negligible.
So, today I pulled the cover off the battery to clean the leaves out and noticed the clear hose in the picture. It was just lying in the tray area.
1. Is this the vent tube?
2. Does this battery need venting?
3. Is the thing I am pointing to the vent?
4. If so, the hose does not fit that nipple thing.

I'm not familiar with that particular battery but that does look like the vent. Its common to have to buy the correct vent fitting to make a new battery work with the existing vent tube. Or as Maurice said let the dealer do it. Venting the battery to the outside is important so definitely do it.

Actaully, mine is an OE part http://www.autoatlanta.com/Porsche-B...893915507.html
Note that this elbow is a round is round when the battery vent hole is elongated. I think the tech just used a plier to squeeze the elbow to fit thte vent in my case.
So yea, maybe just ask your dealer to give you this part.

On my Bosch Battery the elbow you speak off is actually part of the battery. When buying a new battery always check that the elbow has not been accidentaly snapped off in transit. I had to exchange a new battery myself when buying from pepboys. I didn't notice the broken breather until I was connecting up on Pepboys car park. An elderly assistant took the exchange battery back to my car on a trolley then asked me 'what is wrong with that one you have" I told him that Porsche of Lancaster had said I needed a new one. This man tested it, told me mine was only 18months old and was holding a full charge so I kept the original and got my money back on the one I had just bought. I couln't thank the man enough....BTW the same battery is still on my car since I bought it almost 2 years ago after 18000 miles later. Only had to charge it up one time when I ran it down a bit messing with the cab top with the engine not running. Long post eh. I am not joking, I could talk a false eye to sleep haha.

Just to close out the thread with a resolution. I ran all over town today knowing that somebody had to have this vent kit. Not a one. Small town. There is not an Interstate vendor in my town. I just placed a call to Interstate corporate. They have arranged for a dealer 50 miles away to put one on the truck and to drop it off to me when he passes through my area in a few days.
Serious props to Interstate Batteries for excellent customer service and a willingness to help out! Oh, and have yet to receive a call back from the car dealer. I guess I dont spend enough money there.

I'm about to put an Optima battery in mine...it's not a vented battery (i don't think)...should i just lay the hose over to the side? Don't think that'll hurt anything.
