Default 40th Anniversary Engine & Option Codes

Just trying to resolve some conflicting information i am getting from two different sources as far as engine codes for the 40th anniversary cars. One source is stating that engine codes are just like for the regular Carreras M96/03-XXX while the other source is saying that the correct code is M96/03S ("S" being for the X51 package, because it was a standard feature on these cars) My car does not have the "S", M96/03-684 ........ Just wondering which is right? What do the other 40th owners see under the hood.

Also in my option list, on the same sticker, i don't see the X51 option either. Matter of fact can't find the explanation for a lot of these, even though i must've checked five different databases. This is what i found out.

C36 - Canadian Car (OK)
X99 - Natural Leather (OK)
680 - Bose Sound (OK)
XCC - ??????
XCD - ??????
XCE - ??????
XEA - ??????
XPG - Three-spoke steering wheel in aluminium look and leather (ALUMINUM?)
XSC - Porsche crest in headrest (ACTUALLY NOT TRUE)
XTR - ??????
XJ4 - Ignition lock surround in leather (OK)
XV1 - Leather vent cover (OK)
XX1 - Front floor mats embroidered 'Porsche' (OK)
X45 - Instrument dials matching interior colour (OK)
X46 - ??????

That's all of them. I don't know if it's a Canadian thing, and they don't match with the rest, but i can't find some of them, and some don't even make sense. Like i said no X51 package listed. And if you go to my album, you can see that there is nothing on my headrests. What does your sticker say? Is it similar to this or do all codes make sense? Thanks.

My 40th AE does not list the x51 either. The original sticker on the car says "345hp" and nothing about it being an x51 option. I believe the LSD is not listed in the option code either. These were 'standard' items for the car. (Actually now that I think about it, there's no option codes for the full leather either.)

Here's a list of the option codes from under my hood:
c02
x99
425
437
438
537
650
692

I am not at home now so i won't be able to check the manifold, but my production number is #1373.

Thanks yoda, actually as far as leather, i believe the X99 covers that. It is defined as code for "NATURAL LEATHER" option, i have that one on my car as well.

650 - Sunroof (i have a sunroof as well but no code for it)

680 - Bose Sound (you don't have that code, but i am sure you have the sound system from Bose)

Just weird, I don't know if it 's because it's a Canadian car, but don't see the reason for it, since its got US VIN number.

What does you engine code start with? It's on the same sticker in between the option codes and the main VIN. It should say something like this M9603-XXX or M9603S-XXX. That's the only part that interests me. Thanks.

I figured out the x99 code after I did a manual look-up (originally used an automated look-up and it stated at x99 was some sort of vent!)

The engine number is: m9603-684

what's the "s" stand for in the in engine number?

I am starting to believe that is mis-information i got from this book

in regards to our cars. In that book it states that engine codes for the 4oth AE cars had an additional "S" in the code. M9603S as opposed to just M9603, and it says it's due to the X51 package being standard. But i don't have the "S" and neither do you, so i am starting to think that the book is simply wrong, especially since the Bentlyes 996 service manual have no mention of this.

That book also says that the 40th comes with a third radiator which is not true.

Well, since it seems ALL your codes are muddled, then I take it the factory kind of rushed the production of the 40th AE. Sh*tty documentation.

Hey Nedster!

The last post by 2k3 was of little value. Ignore it. To suggest that because of your codes, the 40th AE was rushed any more or less than any other Porsche is absurd.

It's obvious that the 40th AE's sent to Canada (or where ever your 40th AE was originally sent to) have different codes than the ones we are using in the US. I looked at my Bentley manual and almost none of your codes are listed, but it has every one of my codes.

I recommend you contact Porsche and ask them. I asked them about our 40th AE floor mats and although they didn't have the answer I was hoping for, they did get back to me within a few days. Per a Porsche code website..."You can obtain the list of option codes for your car by contacting Porsche and requesting a "cardex" for your car". E-Mail: customercenter-exclusive@porsche.de

My code is M9603-684 and then G9601-20.

I wouldn't worry about it not being an X51. Even the original window sticker doesn't say X51 anywhere on it. (at least not mine). But I know it's an X51 because the experienced tech at RAC that I just spent 8 hours with told me it was. And as 40th Mike (who I bought my car from) would say "The seat of my pants dyno tells me so".

Hey Steve, thanks for the e-mail, i will definitely fire some questions off to them. By the way that is exactly the same engine code i have on mine. From what i found out, these cars were not in any way differentiated by other 996 cars of that model year in their VIN or engine code numbers. Even if you type any 40th VIN number into CARFAX or similar, it will come back at you as a 320HP model. I was never really worried, i knew the car was legit cause i got it from a dealer that sold it originally as new, but some things just didn't make sense. Essentially, the only way to tell it's a 40th AE car by looking at the sticker under the hood is if the number under your VIN (model number) is 996-120.

I see the 996-120 on mine as well. Thanks for finding that.
