an easy DIY job
Replacing a washer unit is pretty easy, once you recover from the $200 parts cost. You'll have to remove the headlight unit...see owner's manual for details; it's actually pretty straight forward to do so.
Oh, pick up a small diameter screw-clamp in advance. You'll need this to re-secure the fluid supply line to the new washer nozzle unit.

Won't have to! The car came through inspection with flying colors and my (new to me) 996 is on the road! I do need to find something to put in place of the missing plastic piece...
