Default Cheap body shop in San Diego

Selling my 996 soon & would like to repaint the bumper before selling it (too many chips). Don't want to spend too much since I'll be selling it... What place would you recommend in San Diego??

if i were smart you i'd spend as much as necessary for a good (not cheap) shop that can get the best possible paint match - unless of course you want the car to look like crap and have it sit on the market

nothing looks worse than a front bumper with a bad paint match.

I don't know anybody in particular. But give Steve Maxwell exotics a call, he has some very good referrals.

I take "cheap" in San Diego as "not get f'ed by SoCal jacked up prices".

if all you are paining is the front clip - I think cheap can be OK .... its a disposable part that sees lots of abuse

best of luck - what's next car?

If you actually want 'cheap,' you might check with a good dent removal shop. They can often so small resprays without the high overhead of a full body and paint shop. I have seen front end resprays by a mobile vendor that were very good. It is more of a Dr. Colorchip type refinish than a traditional paint process.

I ordered my rear wing from Better Body Motorsports in SD, I don't know anything about their bodywork but they may be worth checking out! I think they've been around for awhile & big into Porsche's, maybe somebody else on here has had some dealings with them. I think Armondo is the owners name, let us know how it turns out!

Default Price point

FWIW, I took my car to a local paint/repair shop highly recommended by my p-car dealership svc mgr, and they gave me an estimate of $1100 to remove/paint/install the front bumper cover.

La Jolla Auto Body in Pacific Beach.

They do great work and are good people.

I had my WRX vandalized (drunk kicked) a few years back. They painted 70% of the body and did a great job. Some wear showing around the roof racks 4 years later, but overall a great experience.

Lol, you're right. By cheap I meant the best price on a quality job, not the best pice for a crap job. By the way, I ended up finding the person for the job. He works at the best body shop in SD (the Porsche & Ferrari dealerships send all their work to them). He happens to be a customer of mine & we exchanged his services for mine.

Not sure yet. After owning my 996 for almost 5 years now & seeing the 997.2 & 991 come out, I feel the 996 is starting to age in a bad way. Plus my wife insists I buy something more comfortable & newer (no one in her family would dare buy a used car) that'll seat at least 4 people (I have 3 cars right now & they're all 2 seaters, lol). I test drove an Audi S5 and a BMW M5 & they're just not for me, too bland, too boring, too common (wife loved the S5 though). I've been looking at air-cooled 911's (I love the 964) but my wife hates old cars. Hopefully I can add one in the future though... But finally a car we agreed on. I found a good deal on a 997S with the perfect (for me) options, color, mods, etc. I convinced my wife that the 997 will seat 4 people (didn't tell her how cramped the back is, she doesn't know because my 996 has a roll bar in the back ) So if all goes as planned I'll close the deal on it soon. Otherwise my search continues.

I've actually been to their shop! It's about 15 minutes south from where I live. If the deal on the 997 I'm looking at goes through I'll probably be buying some side skirts from them.

Where did you end up taking your car?

Did your customer just handle it on the side, or did you actually do business through the body shop?

Thanks.
