Default 03 Compression check

Was quoted $684 for a compression check during a PPI. Since the car only has 24K miles, the tech suggested I save my money. I've agreed to purchase...mistake or not?

Seems steep.

I've purchased two 996's over 60k miles, both modded and (knock on wood) no engine issues.

However, I obviously can't speak on all of them. Is $684 worth the piece-of-mind and potential of saving you from a jacked engine? Probably.

I've purchased cars without doing a proper PPI / compressor, and been screwed... twice. Figured I'd learn after the first time, I suppose i'm too trusting.

If the car is in stock trim, you're probably fine. You can have them pull the misfire reports from the DME as well.

For a low mileage, naturally aspirated engine I probably wouldn't bother paying for a compression check. If it was a turbocharged engine that someone may or may not have upped the boost on, I wouldn't buy without it.

That does seem expensive! Given the mileage you shouldn't need it, MKI maybe but not a MKII.

I was quoted $300.00 by Porsche dealer that did my ppi so that seems awfully high. Does that include the ppi or is that in addition to the ppi?

They wanted to block out 5 hours @ 114 per, then add the PPI @ 114 = 684...so I guess it was $570...my bad.

Ouch...
To give you idea my ppi was $300 and the compression test was $300 and the dealer after doing ppi basically even told me save your money it's a good one no need for compression test 2.5 years later and I guess they were right. I am probably gonna do one at 60k service since plugs will be out.
