I have an 01 C4 that I need to replace the ignition switch. I read somewhere that the Audi ignition switch will work on my car. But which one?
When I sought an Audi ignition switch module for my Boxster I just showed up at the Audi dealer parts counter and told the parts department manager what I wanted, what I was looking for, and the parts counter guy knew the part number. He had sold several in the week or so before I came in.
Be aware that Porsche no longer permits its techs to replace just the module.
What I was told (the Porsche techs told me) too many times just replacing that portion of the ignition switch failed to address the symptoms and then the car came back with the same complaint. This makes the dealer/car/tech look bad to the customer so I think this explains why PCNA put the kibosh on just the electrical module replacement.
But you can of course do just the module and see what happens.
Ironic.........I read this a few days ago and low and behold......my ignition switch starts to fail. The key became hard to remove. Went to NAPA and $11.49 for a new switch. 45 minutes later I'm back in business. Renntech has a great write up about this. Hands and body hurt though..I'm not a contortionist.
Local Porsche dealer just stuck an Audi switch in my '01 C4- could've screwed me but didn't. Prob worth making a discreet inquiry if you don't want to swap it out yourself.

Porsche sold me just the ignition switch and said the business about not selling just the failed switch part was crazy. They sell them all the time. They have no incentive or instruction to sell you anything else
