Should be easy, no? It's bottom left when you open the rear deck, last I looked there's only a couple of bolts holding it down.

Super simple.

1. Remove air box (not really needed, but gives you extra room to work)
2. Unplug tubes and electrical connection
3. Unbolt from car (3 or 4 10mm bolts IIRC)

Are you asking how to remove and replace it, or how to take it apart and clean it? Capt. Obvious has covered R/R. Taking it apart is more involved, but I have some pictures if you need them.

Yes, I would like to see the pics. My indy tells me I need to replace and said I should be able to do it myself. Where's the best source? He was saying the part is like $1200 or some crazy number and recommended I may just want to check my CE codes periodically and learn to love the CE light.
I've done that for a few thousand miles and am afraid I may be running rich. I'm due a weekend DIY anyway.

I'm fairly confident VW/Audi/Porsche used more or less the same SAI pump for all their cars in this era. When I get home I'll compare them on my cars. If I'm right, you can get a used VW/Audi pump for like $20 on eBay.

Anybody ever figure out a sensor bypass method to prevent a CEL after removal?

I guess I could just stick it back in there . . .

There is no way to prevent a CEL by using a resistor or "bypass" when you remove the SAI. When the ECU triggers the SAI to run, it looks for a lean burn reading from the primary O2s as part of the readiness scan. To get rid of the CEL you need to program out the SAI and/or force a readiness pass (read: you need custom software).

I didn't have much luck finding an equivalent Audi/VW part, but I'd love to hear about it. I ended up purchasing a used pump off of Ebay for ~$150. Despite several attempts to clean it up I still had the annoying sound on startup. The bearings are "sealed" and must have enough grit in them to have caused damage.

Right, but he was asking about how to prevent the CEL if you remove the SAI.

Has anybody tried the Bosch OEM replacement secondary air pump:

http://www.autoatlanta.com/results.p...605%20104%2000

Mine sounds like a circular saw on start-up, and $470 seems a lot better than $1650...

Wow, $500 is crazy for a pump. $1650 is criminally insane.
