Lon,
Thank you so much.
Rennlist is AWESOME!
Still would like to find a DIY. I,m at weekend shade tree mechanic and it's not the weekend and no shade trees.
PS Took the 996 up 176 via the Saluda Grade to Hendersonville and did some hiking with my son.
What an awesome drive! I haven't had thrills like that since my last race. I recommend that drive to anyone.
Thank you so much.

Going back a few posts, yes, I removed the SAI pump and would get two recurring CEL error codes because of the vacuum leaks and/or because the "open" electrical circuits and sensors.
For entirely different reasons I'm rebuilding my motor now and the builder has blocked off the SAI ports and claims to have "removed" the smog features from the motor (car is a track car anyway). He also claims no more CEL codes because of this. We'll see.
Now, I have a SAI pump for sale. Anybody need one--will be much less than $500!

I'm still not sure mines not a vacuum leak. This all started when I replaced my starter 6 months ago(DIY). Indy assures me I did it right and connected all hoses but I'm still thinking that's the root cause. We'll see.

How can this stupid little thing cost so much?
I removed mine recently to replace my coolant tank. It looks like a little fan encased in plastic. Probably cost $5 to manufacture.
Some thing I don't mind paying the Porsche tax for but this one is crazy...

I had tell-tale signs of SAI switch failure on my 986S last year; fuses were good and I could hear SAI kicking on, but the O2 sensors were showing clear signs it was NOT injecting extra air, and were thus throwing a code. (I picked up a bluetooth OBDII reader and could watch/plot/log the data in real-time on my phone, which was extremely helpful.) I had just had an AOS fail, and was worried all that oil had destroyed something expensive... But ended up I had just knocked the vacuum line off the SAI vacuum reservoir while changing the AOS and hadn't noticed. So little air was leaking that it didn't impact performance, but the pressure loss was enough that the SAI vacuum switch wasn't actuating. Stuck the line back on, good as new!

there is some talk about this on the Renntrack forums

I thought Krazy had posted a DIY but I don't see it.
