Decoding the VIN - 40th AE question
Hello I am looking at a 40AE and some fool/vandal/villain has stolen the plate that says which in the series (of the 1963) it is.
Is there a way to determine the number by the last 4 digits of the VIN (or any sequence within the VIN?)
The only other way I can think of is to contact Porsche and request a COA with the VIN.
Thanks in advance.
Brian

Effin idiots! A COA would be ideal to have, so that is a good start. the series number may have been randomly assigned since the AE was probably assembled in the same line with standard 996's. there is a 40AE Registry here; have you pm'd some of the members and asked them their VIN's. It would be ideal to try and get another plaque made up to replace the missing one; maybe a trophy or sign shop can do one.

I decided to pass... it was just one more thing about that example I had a bad feeling about.
On the positive, I now own #898!!! It was a much better example that has been cherished more completely, which of course I now continue that tradition.
I still need to take pictures... but I am too busy enjoying it.
Maybe this weekend.
Thanks!
