996 NB wheel size and use question
Hi,
I am a 996 newbie and yes, I have searched this forum for an answer. I am asking because I did not find a direct answer to my question.
Can a 1999 NB 996 fit 18x8.5 and 18x11 rims? I see that TireRack has these wheel sizes as an option.
Does anyone track their car with this setup? Could you go to a 305 in the rears if the car will take 18x11s?
Yes, I understand that these factors all have an impact.
1. ride height
2. offsets
3. camber
4. tire size
5. tire manufacture
Thank you for putting up with my 996 inexperience....
Eric

In my experience, when Tire Rack shows rims as fitting a particular model it typically means that they've actually fit them to the car. You should confirm with them though.
If you're looking at OE rims, I think what you need to be careful of is the off-set difference between a set of Turbo Twist rims (whether hollow or solid) for a WB and a set of Turbo Twist-Look rims for a NB since the 11" rims that fit the WB probably won't fit onto a NB because of the different off-set. Also, I think the TT-look rims for the NB were 10". You probably know this better than I do though! lol. And, someone who knows better than me is certainly apt to join in and correct me.

Eric the 996 cups run 9's and 11's on the same NB 996 as you have. I run them on my 99' 996, I even run a set of 9-1/2's and 11-1/2's with a little rolling of the fenders. I have a set of Kensis 9's and 11's I might be willing to part with. Are you coming to Spring Mountain?....

How do you get 235's to fit on the front? I just tried a pair of knock off lobster forks with 235 all season tires and they rub on the shock spring collar. I don't know what the offset is, I'll have to look.

Maybe you are thinking about track use, but let me suggest that in terms of street use, while a 305 rear will fit I would also go with a 295 max as bigger wheels and tires add unsprung weight which will negatively impact acceleration and handling. I have gone back to 265s on my 18X10 rears and find the handling more balanced than with wider rubber (with 5mm spacers).
