Doing a quick check on Auto Atlanta, the OE '04 Turbo motor has been superceeded to this:
3.6L 05 CARRERA TURB
P/N G99610097029
Price: $66,239.69
Of course this is just the motor, and btw, the Turbo motor is vastly different than the m96 unit in your car. I don't know that your pistons, rods and crank are strong enough to take the additional pressure and heat of a turbocharger.
You'll also need intercoolers and plumbing, mufflers, cats, all the ECM and electronics, cooling plumbing, an additional radiator, beefed up trans, suspension and brakes to do it right.
Could be $90k or more in parts and a lot of labor to do it to a narrow body. This is a stock type set up.
It makes much more sence to sell your car and buy a Turbo Cab. It's a tremendous upgrade. I went from a '99 996 Cab to an '04 Turbo Cab.

you can get a super charger or turbo installed on your current engine but a 996 Turbo has a GT1 engine purpose build for boost... VERY different than what you've got now.
You'd be better of taking the $$ you would've spend on the turbo mod and putting it towards trading in your current ride for an early model 996 Turbo.
You won't just get the power but, brakes, suspension, etc. etc....

When you say TURBO the car .... are you talking just body mods so it has a Turbo-look -- or putting in an actual Turbo engine (and then of course doing all the body mods)?
If you want a Turbo 996, take a look at what you car is worth ($30 something), the price of a used Turbo engine and fittment ($15), factor in a little uncertainty cost ($5) and the body mods ($10K). None of that factors in the real Turbo brakes, suspension etc... My guess is that all together together you're probably not far from the price of just buying a used 996 Turbo.
Numbers may be a little off there or there -- but if you ever want to sell the thing, you'd have a much easier time pushing a real Turbo than a retro fit one. There is value in that as well.

If I were going to add forced induction to a 996, I think I'd probably favor a supercharger over a turbocharger. There are kits out there. However, my first choice would be to sell my car and buy a 996 turbo.

I dont think it is a bad idea but you cannot realistically have the stock kit. you cna get a good aftermarket kit though.

The TPC Racing CT-500 Turbo kit for the 996 is a great kit that wakes the car up. The power comes on smooth, making the car a pleasure to drive. Where some people would think that having a turbo would mean that there is "lag" compared to the supercharger, there is no waiting for the power with this kit. We have clients tracking their 996's and 997's with the CT-500 (996 kit) CT-520 (997 kit) and enjoy it very much because they can put the power down and have it come in smooth.
The drive-ability of the car is fantastic. When driving a car with the TPC Racing CT-500 kit as a daily driver, you don't notice anything different, but once you get into the throttle, a new world opens up. The exhaust note is a bit louder than stock with more grunt to it, but nothing obnoxious that produces a loud drone in the cabin.
