PLZ: HELP!! My C4 doesn't take fuel...veerrryy slow... :( :(
hi guys.
I got my 2001 911 C4, and it's my 1st Porsche and I LOVE IT!!!
PROBLEM #1:But I noticed that when I drive...the guage that shows FUEL LEVEL most of the time when driving drops to 0 and flashes "ORANGE" (PICTURE #1), and the Center dash that shows Distance till Empty (instead of showing ex: 156mi left) it shows blank --- bars. (PICTURE#2)
When I drive **very very quietly and on PERFECTLY smooth road** the gas guage reads the fuel level accuratly and the console shows how much I got to go till MTY, but when I accelerate....it just goes back to 0 flashing MTY and --- emty bars..
I'm clueless......
PROBLEM #2When I go to fuel my Porsche, it takes ONLY about 0.02 gallons before the fuel starts to be at the very very tip of the "throat" (I stop pumping) and it SLOoooowly goes does down....
I wait for about 10 seconds till fuel goes down...and then fuel up again another 0.02 gallons...and wait another 10 seconds..
And that's how I fuel my Porsche!
Takes about 30 minutes to fuel up 6 gallons or more!
Please HELP ME find the problem because I KNOW it's not supposed to be like that

Sounds like you have a restriction somewhere in the filler neck if it is going that slow. If the PO had the tank our for any reason and the filler hose is kinked it will cause this type of problem.
I think you may have to drop the tank.
Also run a bottle of Val. synthetic fuel system cleaner through the next time. I say Valvoline because they have an additive in their cleaner that cleans off the sending unit contacts in the tank. This was a very well known problem in some domestic cars back some years.
Just some thoughts

As stated, search is your friend here. If you're lucky it's just a fuse on some of the newer cars, but based on your gas gauge problems I'm assuming the hoses in the tank are flopping around causing the flapper valve to not open AND messing with the reading from the sending unit too. The fix to zip tie the hoses up and out of the way is pretty simple but the working room is cramped. Good news is if that's the case the fix is literally going to cost you <$1.00 if you do it yourself.

Damn, Andy ...you may have just established the record for the least expensive repair cost for a 996! Hope it works out for the OP.

Problem #1 I suspect is a computer glich. Problem #2 is the same problem I have with my 2000 C4. It takes forever to fill the tank. Usually I need to hold the heavy rubber casing that surrounds the neck of the pump nozzle back slightly and the fuel seems to flow easier.

You need TSB 2015. You can join RennTech.org or as Zookie said, contact your dealer.

The fact that it shows dashes may indicate it's completely losing the signal from the level sender unit. It could be something as simple as a loose wire or an intermittent short. You say it works on smooth roads and this kinda supports this theory. I'd start first by checking the wiring then if that didn't work possibly replace the sending unit.
As far as the slow filling goes, try rotating the gas nozzle 180 degrees so the trigger is on top. I've used this method on my SC for many years for the very reason you describe.

TSB 2015 -
Concern: 1. Difficulty filling the tank
2. Running out of fuel due to incorrect fuel gauge reading.
I suggest you read it.
