Default Another one bites the dust: Cracked #2 cylinder in 2001 Carrera

How common is a cracked cylinder in 2000 and 2001 models? My engine (which was running) had a check engine light and had excessive pressure build up in the coolant system. After a few months of slowly removing and tearing my engine down, I have confirmed there is a crack in cylinder 2. I have done extensive reading on this but it seems this problem is most common in 1999 models with porosity issues.

The good news is my plan is to rebuild engine myself as project!

In your case common enough. Bummer.

Is the engine a rebuild candidate with a cracked cylinder? There are companies that sleeve these engines. Autofarm and Hartech in the UK and there may be a few companies in the USA that do this too. (Flat6Engineering maybe?)

Sincerely,

Macster.

LN Engineering is the way to go. Ask about upgrade options, you know while your in there. Oh and get your crank magnafluxed while its out.

Yeah, how many miles and what would a good quality repair cost with the LN Eng re-sleeve?

I am thinking about looking at a 996 that needs an engine due to D chunck but have to weigh the cost vs benifit.

about 70k miles on it. The hard part is to decide which components to replace while the engine is out and apart.
