TOTAL Quartz Oil Review 5W40 Porsche Approved

I am just wondering if anyone has used this kind of oil in their 996? Sorry for starting another oil thread but I would like to here comments on this oil as my local Indy mentioned that they recommend this on all 996's. It's straight from Europe and I would like to give it a try on my next oil change. Here is an old approval, but can't find an update... although I know one exists!

I do not use Total oils. Some are approved.

Total Quartz 9000 Energy 5w-40 - WW - 18.05.2013
Total Quartz 9000 5w-40 - EU - 10.04.2011 [Expired]
Total Quartz INEO MC3 5w-40 - WW - 10.04.2011 [Expired]
Total Activa 9000 5w-40 - WW - 18.05.2013
Total Activa Diesel [WTH?] 9000 - 5w-40 - WW - 18.05.2013

Don't know about that 'Diesel' but that's the way it reads in the documentation I have.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I'm specifically talking about Total Quartz 9000 Energy 5w-40 - WW - 18.05.2013

I will give this a try on my next change. I usually use Mobil 1 0W40.

I have heard extremely good things about it!

I am using the Total Quartz 9000 Energy 5w-40. No issues

... but then I get my car serviced by the indy in question :) who uses it in his 996.

A little bias in that sense, but I think we are talking about the same indy. I'm surprised to see that not to many people chimed into this oil discussion.

Not too much insight in this type of oil which makes me assume that it is not commonly used. I think this will be my choice of oil from now on, that said, if I actually "like" it. But what's really to like, I don't think it will make any noticeable differences, it's all behind the quality and research.

Just wanted to bump this old thread up.... I have been using this oil for quite some time now and It's fantastic! Better than any oil that I've tried and believe me, I almost tried them all throughout various vehicles that I’ve owned.

What makes it better?
Unless it's backed up by used oil analysis of 4 oil changes of experimental oil (total) and 4 oil changes of the control oil (let's pick Mobil1) - I don't see how you can make this 'seat of the pants' claim.

I have no affiliation at all in any way shape or form with the company. I admit I didn't do any analysis on why I think it's better, but the biggest difference I noticed is that it makes the engine run smoother and less noisy. It doesn't burn oil at all, and for some reason, it doesn't darken up as fast as other oils. There is no condensation in the oil filler tube... I've never noticed any debris/unwanted bits in the oil filter, and my magnetic drain plug has a very minimal film on it. I realise there are many variables and factors to what i just said, but I’m just speaking purely out of a lot of oil change experience!

Also, I noticed with other oil types that the engine performance in general decreases as you rack up more miles... This one stays strong till the end.

^LOL!!!! That's some funny stuff.

I am just...lost for words. ^^

I'm not an oil expert by any means, but I'm just going by what I've noticed personally. Glad it gave you stiffs a little chuckle though on such a “serious” subject 

Come on dude. Thats like saying the oil is better cause the bottle looks nicer.

Why not stick to, "I use it, nothing has blown up yet"

Hmm... I guess I have to be an "oil expert" to give my personal opinion on an online forum. All I'm saying is that I feel very confident to say that this is a very good oil. My personal opinion is that it runs nicer in my car then Mobil 1 0W40.

Simple math here...

I didn't think I needed to be that obvious. Of course my words were very vague but all I'm saying is that I've been extremely happy with it, moreso then the Mobil and other brands that I have tried.
