yeah, this piece is def an add on.... notice how the badge doesnt snuggly fit the rubber gasket, instead it just rests on top.... this is why these badges flies off... they are not tightened enough.
to fit the rubber gasket around the badge, take a very small screwdriver... dip it in oil run the screwdriver along the edges of the rubber and stretch the gasket passed the edge of the badge. Once passed the badge... press down on the badge so it keeps the gasket in place... once the rubber is fitted the full circumference of the badge... tighten the badge nut under the hood.
here is my aftermarket...

For crests without studs GE Silicon or RTV goes a long way toward retaining them. I used GE Silicon on a spare P-crest years ago on my VW Vanagon and that crest hasn't budged a bit!

Yeah not a bad idea.. i would think silicon would have a tough time sticking to a smooth surface like paint.

Ed & Redridge Ferdinand ... you are both WRONG. The original equipment on my C4 2000 is Silver. In that year Porsche differentiated the C4 model with all silver trim - including the Carrera 4 script and the silver Calipers, & Silver Crest. You can read about this is several articles written at the time.

Same here..2000 C4 with a gold badge. I like the look of the gold badge on Black.
My badge is all snugged up now...it was just a few turns with a nut driver.
Getting the badge to sit in side the gasket is a whole other story. It is way small and needs stretched. Perhaps mine has become brittle with age? I tried Ferdinand's screw driver oil trick but it did not prove to easy. I foresee a big scratch in the hood of my car so I aborted. I also tired heating the gasket up and that helped give it some elasticity but it cooled before I could finish. I think I am going to perform the operation on an old piece of scrap wood with holes drilled in it. Any one else have any luck or have any other tricks?
