Default Spare parts to always have available

I've been building a stock of spare parts just so that when I need them I have them handy and I'm curious what others would list as the top 3-5 items.

Just now I've got a full set of rotors, brake pads all around, spare set of wheels, oil filters, spare shocks, drop links front and rear.

Anyone got some other items we need to keep handy?

This list will be huge, it never ends, ask Globe, he is still learning.
Oil, oil pan, p/s fluid, brake fluid, duct tape, tie wraps, shift cable ends, drivers side, back of engine, coolant hose (it's the lowest one on the drivers side rear of engine ) on car and gets ripped of when mowing the grass in rough terrain, want me to keep going .......

Ah my man, I haven't got to anywhere near Globes level yet. But I get the feeling that I'm stocking up to prep myself for the race car....

I was thinking more along the line of parts to have handy rather than waiting 2-5 days for them to come in from one source or another.

Lets see; water pump, IMS bearing kit, serpentine belt, coolant tank, multiple RMS seals(updated), rear tires, ignition switches, wheel bearings, coil packs, spark plugs, spare engine, clutch kit, transmission...why not just become a Porsche dealer?

I keep the usual service items -- when I'm low on parts I do a bulk buy from you in the US -- about once a year -- all filters, brake pads, spark plugs, drain plug washers. And a water pump and a serpentine belt and an air con belt. A full set of globes and a set of ignitors for the HID's. Buy my Mobil 1 in bulk. Excepting for the ignitors I will use all of the above sooner or later and when the time is available I can do service work.

Well since I'm doing most of the work myself, lets say the rotors need replacing, instead of me waiting 3 days or so from Suncoast (my spare wheel took 12 days to get here) I can take care of it as needed.

Besides I had some spare cash around

I would just order new rotors/pads/sensors a week or two before I planned on the switch.

Are you trying to be the new Ed?

Steve's list is a little small.....

I like to have a spare wing or two, a fender, hood, extra exhaust (for turbo...just in case) some headlights (4 or 6 is good) couple pairs of seats, handful of shocks and worn out suspession bits, some stickers, 3 helmets, couple manuals (those can go bad in an instant) - a turkey baster, 3 bottles of partial full brake fuild (looks good on the shelf, not for use) 24 types of wax/cleaned/polish 2 Griot's Orbital polishers and a radiator (for air cooled cars )

I don't see the point to having a inventory of items that wear over a period of time. Checking the rotor and pad thickness every so often can give you a heads up on when you need it. You're just putting money in a 0% interest bank...

Water pump might be something to have and hoses but I'd rather just schedule a replacement of the parts at a certain interval. If something goes out, are you really going to be able to replace it right away? Normally when something happens it has to wait for the weekend for me.... There's enough places out there that have the parts in stock and you can express ship them.

That's my $0.02.

The only time I buy in advance is if I see that oil is on sale and I'll get two oil changes worth, or I buy filters a couple at a time since it saves on shipping.

My thoughts were more along the lines of things you would need at the track that could get you back up and runnign at the track should something go wrong. Globe also carries many parts for his 996, when I am at the track with the 996 I have many more parts than Globe for the 996. I also carry Miata parts and some 944 and 911/964 parts with me. Not to mention that I usually come back to Houston every night when at TWS,MSRH, and have a huge amount of things at the shop as well as access to one of the Porsche dealers parts dept. when needed.
