Default New engine - no IMS worries

Well, actually, I got a used engine. And there's no intermediate shaft to worry about - no rear main seal either.

It does need some work before it'll run... and it only does 1 HP per liter (1.75 HP total).

From an old farmer guy in Connecticut. The valve stems are bent... but it turns over freely, and seems mostly complete. I can't place it's age exactly, but guess late 19-teens or early 19-twenties. It's about 300 lbs and has a max speed of 200 RPM.

Ed should have any additional parts you may need for that project.

Interesting mod.

Where will you fit this on your 996? In the front trunk to give additional power?
Not a specialist, but it looks like a lot of weight for a marginal gain. Perhaps a few stripes and decals would give more HP gain

In all seriousness, nice find. Good luck with restoration.

you have entirely too much energy and time

dayam, I want updates.
I will check for any valves in the garage...maybe a small pile to dig thru

I met an old time machinist about a decade ago who was into building scale steam motors. They are beautiful and ellegant in thier simplistic design. He was last making one out of exoctic woods... then he stumbled onto 4 motors....they were out of the Queen Mary's (IIRC) life boats - had them at the shop and was planning to rebuild them all. Dont know how it ended up. We talked at length. He asked me to imagine the sound it will make which I thought was wierd. Then he pointed out its a 4 stroke 2 cylinder.

each lung fires once every other rotation - got it yet? putt, putt, one full silent, putt, putt, one full silent - pretty cool, wish I would have heard them run

nice project Van

Glad you guys are as enthusiastic as I am!

I spent a few hours last night taking it apart. All I can say is PB blaster is good stuff!! I've been spraying everything liberally for a few days, and everything came right apart.

Here are those bent valves:

And they're stuck open:

And there's some rust in the combustion chamber...

The piston is out!

Flywheels and crankshaft:

I was able to cut the intake valve stem with a hacksaw and take it out:

And here's it's fancy brass name tag!

Ed, don't you have a wing of some sort for it? Whale tail, duck tail, GT2?
