Replacing 996 front seat upholstery

Whats the best way to go? OEM covers or are their any good aftermarket alternatives on a 2002 996? Thanks.

There are some decent seat covers, however if you want to do it right, get them reupholstered or replaced, but it depends on your budget. GL

Depending on what is exactly wrong with the current covers you may be able to just have them refinished. Check with your local dealer to see who they use for leather repair and then get an estimate. You may be surprised how well things turn out.

there not that hard to DIY if you have a hog ring gun.

I don't think that's the issue. The biggest issue in replacing the existing covers is that anything new is likely not to match (grain, exact color, etc.) the rest of the interior leather bits.

Here are some links to upholstery suppliers that provide kits to be installed by auto upholstery local to you.

Not in kit form, but some nice Porsche interiors if you want custom work done.

Also Topsonline, in California. They are very good, and will even send you a swatch to compare colors. They did another car I had and I was very happy with the results.

FWIW most of the 928 guys use Rob Budd at Classic 9. He has an good selection of upholstery items for 996/986 as well. He'll either send you the kit or you can ship him your stuff and have it done. He's done a few items for my 928. Top quality work. FYI.

Edit - I see Rob's shop was already posted above.

I plan on using this shop also, since they are local and offer many custom inserts. Will post the results when complete.

I had mine done for $2,500. compete recover.

HoustonCgrBkr 02-19-2019 04:19 PM

Ia m likely to redo mine. Local uplholster quoted about 2500. However, I have the Porsche logo in the head rest. It was a factory option I want to save. So I am likely to keep some original and redo the worn upholstery.

z driver 88t 02-20-2019 01:38 PM

For the Porsche logo you may want to see if Robb Budd offers that option. Paul Champagne used to do laser etching for both the logo and Pasha pattern in the leather (photo attached). He has unfortunately closed up shop and moved to Europe, but Robb may off that service too. I have the same issue on my 996 when the time comes for upholstery work.

That's a cool look. I never loved the pascha (however you spell it), but I do like the subtle version you show, in the leather. Nice!
