Default New useful accessory from Porsche

Finally Porsche decided to bring out a luggage compartment for the 996 .

http://www.classicshop.porsche.com/p...g04400010.html

I will most definitely get this as I have / had always such an accessory in all my cars and was in fact waiting for Porsche to bring this out for the 996 as its been available for the 997 from the start

Very nice but I'm not sure if it's $185 nice. I wonder what made them develop this after 20 years.

For a 718 the Rubbermaid cooler fits very well at a fraction of the cost. Plus, you can keep your food cool or warm. When closed, the cooler lid can be used for additional storage.

Other than carrying soil or other messy things (which I never do) I don't understand the point of this accessory

Serious question: how does this help, other than the slightly reduce the cargo capacity?

Are those hand grips on either side towards the front?

They might be useful as a tote.

If you are going to do a concours or PCA event, at least I do, I usually bring the same items for detailing and refreshments.

Maybe the Christmas Gift list item of the year.

Ok, ok, I'll open myself up here. I carry my coffee (in a thermos) in my frunk. (Risk getting coffee on my stereo or interior carpets? What kind of Porsche owner would I be?) What if I forget about it when a smart-aleck in a VIP-stanced civic forgets his place on the highway and tries to pass me? Now I've got coffee smell in my frunk carpet. Now I've got this little rubbermaid tote to soak it all up.

There is a difference in price depending on where you shop

I agree, they will probably sell a thousand or more. Good cash grab for them. That probably cost them less than $20 USD to make. Dont really see it as that use full but it does seam similar to the Key pouches as far as need.

I checked my go-to place and they have it for $148.97.

Even though I never carry anything in the frunk that has the potential for a mess, I would probably buy one if it was in the $60 - $80 range. In the unlikely event I needed something like it, I would just use a generic container.

Suncoast has this for $155. There are a few instances where this would've been nice when I still daily drove my 996.

I always thought that some of the best of Porsche accessories are not really useful but they do look good !
