Default 1st track-day: Checklist help..

Plan to take my 996 on my first track-day in early July. Excited, but also nervous as what to prepare and expect...

Car is a 1999 w/ 14k miles thus far. Need advise/input for preparation and/if expected wearable parts? Much thanks

Pretty simple. Just change oil (I'd recommend Motul or Redline rather than Mobil water), bleed brakes, make sure you have enough pads/rotors & just have it tech inspected at any Porsche shop to make sure everything is fine. Most of your attention should be on the brakes though. I can't stress this enough.

Good luck & have fun! Tracking is the greatest way to bond with your car & the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on, hahaha.

Hi Raphael, appreciate the inputs.. I changed oil @12.5K (2K ago) w/ Mobil 1 (Porsche Center). Q: Replacing w/ your suggested ones really necessary? Q: I have the disc/rotor/pad inspected after had bought (@10K), all OK, pads are slight-worn, so I have thought of ordering new pads from UK (dealer's price here is 2.5 times). Thought of those EBC 'Yellow' pads, any good? Any other suggestion? Mucho gracias

The most importantly thing is to have fun and a good frame of mind. You will have a blast!

Absolutely not. There is a factory approved list for a reason. You are just fine.

You stated that this is your first track experience. Stock pads will be more than fine. More importantly, when was your brake fluid last flushed?

Miles are not nearly as important on a low mile car as time is. So, how many months ago was 2K miles?

Brake fluid flush every 2 yrs at a minimum is important for the car's braking performance though..

Bring lots of water, an open mind and enthusiasm.

Of course, have your car tech'ed at an approved tech inspector.

Maybe sunscreen, a hat and a chair, too.

Must have: Helmut, long sleeve shirt, long pants, proper shoes (no open toe), completed forms, blue masking tape/numbers, and an expectation to have a blast.

Have fun.

I have spreadsheets that list everything that might be nice to have. I can PM if you want it.

Ditto on what the fellas are saying. I also have a 10x10 tent that folds up and is small enough to put in the back seat. Have a great time!

gatorade 1-2-3
some food and some snacks
leave the cell phone/blackberry turned off
sunglasses
some advil (incase of headache from the sun)
watch hydration, you go thru more liquid than you think... you should drink 3-4 32oz bottles of fluid, one after each session.
dont waste time in the padock... get in someones car and go for a ride (in the upper group runs) - talk to people, bring 2 ears and one mouth, youtube the track prior to going and play it 100 times.... you should know it when you arrive. there is enough to do without wondering which way to turn next.

hide your wallet because you will be signing up for these again and again

Here's a track checklist put together a number of years ago by a dedicated DE participant still applies. Hopefully some will find it useful.

Some or none of this may apply depending on the level of participation but it's good to have on the list as you can then make a conscious decision as to whether or not to leave an item behind.

Also search this forum. There are a couple of good threads on this topic (DE section).

Enjoy.

Make sure you have your tech inspection, helmet and numbers (or some blue tape). If you have to wear long pants, bring those as well. You can wing-it for just about everything else.

Have fun!

Yoohoo, appreciate the much needed inputs, Gents I feel like, in a weird way, having cousins giving some much needed pointers for the first date (1st score?)..

Excited, I am. LV Dell & Tom M, thanks for the check list. Wow plenty. Preparations done: did the oil/brake fluid flush (last 2K miles) just 5-weeks ago. Brake pads...just ordered/just in case (checked!) Helmet..checked! Driving shoes...checked! Hood bra...arrived/checked! Documentation...for sure! Umbrella girl??

Can't wait 'till the day and sure will post some pics from my 'defloration'

Thanks again Gents...
