Followed that one. To my thinking, that car was by far the best example auctioned so far.
As as one of the ending comments said, the days of finding a sub 50,000 mile example for under $50,000 are starting to fade.

IIRC the last 5 40th's all brought over $40 on BaT, one was a 7k mile version
and yet this languishes on PCA Classifieds, 32,000 miles / $34,500

OE 996 Aero wing, PSS10s, 6GT3 polished (AL REED) wheels and alignment, 6GT3 Euro seats with Alcantara (Dark Grey) inserts, and Tequipment Rollbar. She's a keeper.
My 2004 996AE went under the IMSS knife. At sub 33k miles, annual oil changes from new, Blackstone oil reports last 6 years, she passed the pre inspection with flying colors. Clutch was in fine shape so everything was cleaned and greased and back together. Shop said spend the money on the AOS (tested in specs) but while the trans was out it made sense. I can do DIY clutch if and when needed in the future. I have averaged 1k mi per year (on this car) past 6 years, so clutch is a long way off.
After six years cutting open oil filters, annual oil changes, magnetic drain plug inspections, Blackstone reports, every two years cam chain timing checks, and general denial of IMSB failure risk I succumbed to the pressure.
She a keeper so heck, whats another $$$$$ for peace of mind on my beautiful ride.

Just read the complete ad for the new BaT listing. Absolutely nothing negative to say about the car. And I agree, it should / will sell above $50k.
So asking rhetorically, is this model now "collectable"? Will the excellent cars pull the average cars up in value?

I think it can be easily said that the AE is most likely the best driving non GT3 NA 996.
But I've always thought it's kind of odd to think these are rare though. There were 1,963 pretty much carbon copies of each other. If you were to go through the model year 2004, the AE is probably by far the largest lot of X51 cars out there. A truly worthy upgrade and considering the additional goodies, it's a the best package. However I would think that an optioned out C2 w/ x51 or an optioned out C4S w/ X51 is probably a more "rare" car when you look at it from that standpoint. Granted I've never seen another AE on the road while driving around, while I've seen plenty of C2's and C4S's, but no way to tell if any of those are X51's.

This is interesting.
My 32k mi, mint condition, IMSS clad AE near perfect car has a little value.
Sadly my mods hurt the value but hey, they are my mods and I like them!
For those that may be curious my very expensive paperwieght was/is in perfect condition. Shop owner did ingrave STUPID on it for me as promised. He doenst believe the hype Jake and crew like to spin up on our cars. And as suspected in six years of my ownership, service records and oil change each year from new, BlackStone oil reports etc.... my IMSB looks new. No signs of wear. Grease seal intact and full of grease and spins as quiet as a church mouse.
Now, I must say it is nice never thinking about the IMSB failing. $$$$ my hats off to the marketing guys. The IMSB press worked on me. It took six years and the IMSS invention before I gave into the hype but I will not think about my engine grenading ever again.
Now for the bad news.
My dreams of a 4.0 build on my AE are over. i always said if I lost my engine to the dreaded IMSB disease I would just build a monster.
Happy and sad as this saga ends.

The seller of Nr. 1226 just recently bought the car. Maybe he intended to flip it...who knows. He contacted me via the Registry website and only said that he was the new owner - didn't indicate he intended to sell it. The pics in his eBay listing are the ones from the listing of the seller that he bought the car from.
Nr. 0583 that recently sold for $46,666 on BaT is back on the market (according to the comments on that auction listing). Apparently the buyer didn't fulfill the deal. The seller said he had listed it on PCARMARKET but it's not there. You can find the basic listing info via using the search tool on that site but when you click for more details it says the page can't be found. Maybe he's revising the listing and will repost or or maybe it otherwise sold. Who knows.
Just a reminder that the 40ths for sale worldwide are listed on the for sale page on the Registry website: https://www.40jahre911.com/40-jahre-911-listed-for-sale
