Default Porsche Porsche 996 converted to Electric after engine failure ...

With all the story about engine failure, I was wondering if someone decided to go against the IMS problem in a radical way, and spent the $15-20k budget usually devoted to buy a replacement engine from Porsche, and instead put it into a fully electric setup ?

I have seen some car conversion but never on 996, was it ever done...

just wondering

Default Good question

How does the fan work? Is it supposed to run after the car shuts off? For how long? I noticed mine shuts off with the car, I thought it should run for a while after car is off to cool the engine. In my last car I installed a seperate fan to run off of a switch for track days or when it was hot out, worked great. Sorry to jack your thread with another question but I thought it was related.

My neighbor took an old Mazda pickup truck and made it fully electric.

Yeah it's not a Porsche but it's been a successful project. Couldn't see why not, but it would kill the spirit of the car and turn it into a commuter vehicle. After all how many laps can you do on a single charge on the track?

EVPORSCHE.COM

ouah, I am impressed, look at that, a 997 !

Website says between 15k to 25k that is pretty much what a new porsche engine would cost you. With the price of battery pack and electric motors going down each year, I would not be surprised to see a lot of porsche converstion. Especially that most Porsche owner don't use them for commuting so that 60 mile range is just fine for a lot of people.

Wasn't somebody on here looking for distance between the cross member and engine casing so he could install an electric engine near the standard?

as cool a concept that electric cars are, just doesn't work for me with a Porsche. The sound is half the fun.

I just can't imagine how you could make a Porsche exhaust sound with electricity.

You could go one better, and make it sound air cooled.

at current prices, sell the roller for 10K as is, and buy another early 996 for 25-30K

There's a great build timeline for a guy who converted a simple 73 911t i read once. took him 5 years & 20K. the batteries expired in 6. sold the then undriveable car to ze germans for 10K euro
