Default PCM 3 Navigation Confused About Current Location

My 2004 996 Turbo Navigation thinks it's somewhere in NC. If I'm not mistaken I'm running PCM3 V3.

I can calculate a route but the starting point is a few states off. I've tried to reset the NAV, switch to German and back to English, and even tried the DVD from my Cayenne.

The info shows that it is getting satellite. Porsche wants $600+ to update the software. I'm looking for a DIY fix. Any direction is appreciated.

First post. Glad to be part of the club

'04 nav has some bugs. Ask me about my trip to Hilton Head. Not sure of the fix.

Oh, post pics. Your response will be better, and Tim won't have to use caps lock.

Weird. My GPS is stuck somewhere in Hilton Head. Maybe I have to drive there and recalculate!

Maybe we should switch systems?

I would try disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes.

Default Disconnecting the battery

I'm a little weary about doing this. What will I need to do once the car 'wakes up' again. I don't have the radio code. What are the risks associated with doing this?

Nav doesn't need a code that I am aware of. I have done it several times on my 04 with no issues. The computer will have to remap the fuel mixture this will sometime smooth out a rough idle.
The other thing you could do it just pull the nav fuse.

Searayray,

Even thought you didn't post pics (more on this later) I will help you out. The '03 and '04 cars have the radio code programmed in the the computer so if unplug the battery, your radio will work correctly after you reconnect the battery.

Also, Welcome to Rennlist and congrats on getting yout 996. However, it is customary for Newbies to tell us a little about their car and to post pics of it. So consider this next senrence your "Newbie Initiation!" Come on Newbie, post the @#$%^&* pics!

If it is always staying in that region I imagine it isn't interference getting into the wirings. I've read some warnings about after market installs of stuff causing problems. Any chance the antenna is obstrucred or disconnected? Its probably the generic screw up but just in case you can get away lightly.

Other thing I just thought of is do you have the correct disc in? I am not sure what would happen if you put the wrong region disc in.

Default Still lost

Thanks for the input guys. I promise to upload pictures of my cars in the coming days. I pulled the negative for a minute and the PCM asked me for the NAV DVD...took a minute to load and...

same thing . I drove out of my garage and drove a few minutes in hopes the NAV would find the location, but no luck. I don't mind doing some more troubleshooting. Where can I find the GPS antenna?

Also, yea I have the right region disc in, but I don't think u sing the wrong one would confuse the car about its current location. No aftermarket stuff in the car. If I go to info the car reports 0sat and GPS 1d. I've seen it report 1sat but the same issue persisted even when this changed.
