Default Fuel Gauge doesn't go to full?

Okay, I am facing this weird problem on my 996 gauges. About a month ago, the oil pressure gauge sometimes failed while driving and few minutes later it will back to function. I took the car to a shop for a check up but it was functioning properly so I end up don't bother.

Today, I decided to take the car out for a drive and fill up as it has been siting in the garage. After I fill up the gas tank, the fuel gauge doesn't go all the way up?? I notice last time I when fill up the tank, the gauge did went up to full but quickly drop down to the same fuel level as today.

What could possibly be wrong on this??

Attached photo shows the level it stop after filled up and drive for 10 miles.

Could be instrument cluster wiring connector has a bit of surface corrosion affecting sensor inputs. Or the cluster controller going bad. Hard to say. Dealer can test the instrument cluster.

Have you washed the car recently? Let it sit in the rain? Has the car any signs of dampness? Carpets dry? Under the seats? Is it dry around bottoms of the doors?

Lastly, give the car a thorough inspection in the cabin and front trunk and engine compartment for any signs of rodent infestation. A car sitting unused even a couple of weeks at the wrong time can attract mice or something bigger. Rodents gnawing on wiring can cause all sorts of odd electrical problems.

Sincerely,

Macster.

No sign of dampness. I washed the car a month ago, let it sit on the driveway under the sun for few hours and took out for a drive and things were fine. I've checked the doors, underneath the dash, seats, carpets and all dry.

I will take a car for a check out also a service in the next few weeks.

Thanks!

Peter

Sounds weird but try filling up with the gas pump handle upside down, honestly I hear it works.

Thanks Eharrison for the tip! Should I wait until the gas tank empty or I can simply fill up again with this gas pump handle trick?

I only drives the car once a week or every two weeks...=/

FWIW, when a 928 has this issue a ground needs cleaned somewhere.

I've never tried it, I keep forgetting but there is a thread on this on 6speed. This was my response to why it works....

You remind me this fuel gauge issue happens after I pour a bottle of Redline fuel injection cleaner into the gas tank during my last fill up. But I don't think the fuel injection cleaner will mess it up?
