Default A/O Seperator Question (I hope)

So I went to put oil in the car today and saw yellow foamy stuff on the filler neck. I'm having no other symptoms. I started the engine and took the oil filler cap off and sure enough the engine started running rough and sucking serious air. Put cap back on and symptoms went away.
My question, could the A/O separator cause a possible coolant/oil mix ? Could the foamy condition be caused by turbulant oil from a poor A/O separator?

I thought the foam could also be caused from not driving the car long enough for the oil to warm up.

#1 - NO
#2 - possably

big threads on this.... most will say it normal. Change the oil more frequently, and drive the car up to optimum operating temp for longer period of time.

The cream is from water vapor in the case emulsifying with the oil and becoming stuck to the coor surface far away from the case (the filler tube) - thus oil change helps as you are removing old oil that my contain tiny water droplets

try and wipe it clan and see how long til it returns...

Many thanks. The car was nor warmed up and I'm only driving it 1-2/week now at most. Will wipe clean and will change the oil this weekend.
She's fixn to turn 11 years and 100k miles and has been relatively problem free to this point.

FWIW some claims to what oil is used can/might contribute to more/less water vabor removal.

Yes. My very 1st post on rennlist was about which oil should I use. Ah, the good old days
I knew I had read about the vapor thing in the filler neck. It's hard to be objective when it's my car. that's what's great about rennlist!!

Doubt there has been a documented case, but the AOS could rupture inside since it has coolant running through it. With as brittle as all the plastic engine parts are getting on these cars over time I think it is going to happen to somebody. Mine ruptured to the outside luckily.

My car is driven daily. 6 km to work and 6 km back home. In winter in has a lot of yellow creamy foam in the top of the oil filler neck. When I go for a long drive it burns off and the oil level drops significantly that I would have to add 1L of oil.

For the 6 years the only time the yellow cream really is not there is in the summer time because it get long drives and track time.
