brought home my new-to-me `99 996. First thing that happened was a brand new Audi R8 came along side and gave me a big thumbs up! COOL! And his car is early 5x the cost of mine!

I learned my NAV is CD based and that the disc that came with the car is NOT from my area! Anyone have a NAV CD for this year unit for the NY area they aren't using?

^^This^^ is classic!!! Probably not worth the trouble...just use your phone for Nav - it's much better anyway... If you MUST have nav in the car, get yourself a double din unit...

Agree...even if OP finds the appropriate CD for his location, there's no assurance that a 10+ year old CD will even be current. By the time the CD churns through its data (again assuming your destination is in the data) OP could already be there. Don't waste any more time on this - move on to other, more important (and fruitful) mods. Congrats to OP on the new car.

Thanks, but I want it to work. I will of course use Google Maps for real info, but I hate that every screen says "Nav deactivated."

Maybe someone in the mid west has a car that came from NY and they want to swap CDs!

Many things that were written in this thread appear in this video. Another classic case of RTOM:

Yes, I have the same problem. I think something is failing. Sometimes I hear a weird noise when I turn the wheel - like cheap metallic spring stretching...and then nothing, the blinker stays on.

Not sure if either of these have been covered but:

- the light in the front of the drivers door handle shines on the ignition barrel! Never noticed until yesterday

- a big blue Ikea bag fits perfectly in the frunk

Default 2003 C4S Transmission Serial Number Location

Hi - I'm new here and this may have been answered in the past but some reply threads seemed to go on tangents and I got lost....ha ha. Anyway, I've got a 2003 C4S with the X51 option. I found the serial number on the engine (M96/03Sxxxxxxxx) but I can't find where the transmission number is. Does anyone out there know where is it located? Description or clear photo(s) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jim

Smile New owner of 2003 996 C4S and new to Rennlist

I was looking for a used 997 or 996 to buy. Even though I was inclined to go for the 997, once I saw the 996 C4S in person and what a great deal it was relative to the 997, I decided to buy it. I have always liked the C4S headlights and the wide body. Now that I have it I'm slowly working my way through various repairs and upgrades. No shortage of ways to spend money!

If you do this on a cab your windows open and your top will fold.
