Ditto....

I was contemplating upgrade my existing motor....but putting a 3.8 X51 instead would be much more appealing (depending on price)

If it ain't broke don't replace it. The only thing wrong with my engine was the cylinders were to small & weak.

09 motor is a different engine entirely. I think it would be very difficult to swap. That being said if you can get an 09 motor for 3K, do it and sell it for twice that so you can fix yours.

What year is your car? & what is wrong with the engine? I have a good 3.6 case.

Could you post details of how difficult it is, a ball park in relation to the cost and the difference in performance and reliability please.

I am considering a 3.4 to 3.7 rebuild, which will see around 360bhp, cost is circa $19k

Would be interested in the cost & reliability of the 3.8, particularly given the X51 sees 380bhp.

380 in a lightweight 996.1 would be sweet, 300bhp on track is becoming tiresome!

Easily? A stock 3.4 will be the only easy drop in.

Anything bigger/newer involves more complexity and cost. If it is a C2, even a 3.6 isn't an easy one (slightly easier if you have a C4).

For anyone "putting an <insert engine size here> engine" in their car, please clarify whether it is you actually turning wrenches and sorting through the details, overcoming hurdles and complexities, or if it is a professional workshop doing it on your behalf. Paying to have someone else figure it out is a whole different kind of project than doing it yourself.

Oh, and either way, bring your wallet. Even the low end cost wise - salvage engine and transmission, DIY - is in a whole different universe cost wise than any other automobile I've owned.
